WARWICK, R.I., June 23 (UPI) -- A Rhode Island restaurant owner said a server -- his own son -- was fired after a customer received a printed receipt that identified the patron as "Fatty."
Dillon Arnold posted a photo to Facebook of his receipt from All Stars Bar & Grill in Warwick.
The receipt identified the customer as "Fatty."
"I was signing my slip," Arnold told WJAR-TV. "I didn't really pay attention to it yet, and then I just happened to read it and I saw it in the corner and I was like, 'Wow,' and my heart just dropped."
Tony Ambrosio, the restaurant's owner, said the server was his 18-year-old son. He said the teenager has been fired and is no longer allowed at the eatery.
"I want to apologize to you, Dillon. From the bottom of my heart. I apologize," Ambrosio said. "That's not the type of person that I am, my employees are, or my child."
He posted a comment on Arnold's Facebook post.
"We sincerely apologize for your negative experience last night. It was very unprofessional to say the least. We take full accountability for what occurred and would like to make it up to you. Please call me so I can offer you something for the inconvenience. This should not have happened, and my staff will be dealt with right away."
Ambrosio said he and his son are hoping for the chance to apologize to Arnold in person, but Arnold said he has no intention of returning to the restaurant.
"He offered me a gift card, but I'd rather just not go there," Arnold said. "It's just so embarrassing."
Arnold said he hopes people can learn something from his experience.
"People are going to be like that," he said. "Just keep going on with life. It's not really worth stressing the little things." Like Us on Facebook for more stories from UPI.com Related UPI Stories
