Decades after the film premiered, star Melvin Van Peebles confessed that not only did he have real sex in the groundbreaking blaxploitation film, he contracted gonorrhea during filming. Yikes! Even more disturbing, the film’s opening scene depicts 13-year-old Sweetback, played by Van Peebles’ son Mario, losing his virginity. Mario later said that he was forced to take part in the scene by his father, who simply wanted to complete his film.

That last bit sounds like a rationalization. Is this not a perfect picture of a society gone mad? The totally "hood" van Peebles became a monster celebrity on making this dumbass afro-flick. Others covered include Cruising (1980), Pink Flamingos (1972), Caligula (1979), The Idiots (1998), Antichrist (2009), Eyes Wide Shut (1999) etc. I've always said they'd destroy the border between porn and mainstream, but had no idea it'd beeen going on for decades.
