Obama Raged After This Humiliating Defeat

When President Obama imposed his illegal executive amnesty, Republicans immediately sued to stop this power-grab.

But after the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia, the prospects for the court case were up in the air.

However, the Supreme Court handed down their decision — and Obama was enraged.

In a split 4-4 vote, the Court blocked Obama’s illegal executive amnesty.

That is because when the Supreme Court is deadlocked, the lower court’s ruling remains in place.

And a federal judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals had already ruled Obama overstepped his constitutional authority by unilaterally rewriting immigration laws without the consent of Congress.

Politico reports on Obama’s rant in reaction to the defeat:

“Today’s decision is frustrating to those who seek to grow our economy and bring a rationality to our immigration system,” Obama said from the White House Thursday. “I think it is heartbreaking for the millions of immigrants who’ve made their lives here.”

Obama’s plan to grant amnesty to up to five million illegal immigrants was an attempt to create chaos that would force Congress to eventually pass the Gang of Eight amnesty bill.

It was also designed to pander to Latino voters and drive up support for Hillary Clinton in the general election this fall.

The deadlocked decision also highlights the stakes in this contest.

Clinton released a statement expressing fury at the ruling, while at the same time blasting Republicans for blocking Obama’s pro-amnesty nominee to replace Justice Scalia.

Politico also reports:

“Today’s deadlocked decision from the Supreme Court is unacceptable, and shows us all just how high the stakes are in this election,” she wrote. “Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is purely procedural and casts no doubt on the fact that DAPA and DACA are entirely within the President’s legal authority.”

Clinton also linked the momentous immigration ruling to the standoff over filling the seat opened by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death in February. Republicans have refused to hold a hearing or vote on Obama’s nominee for the slot, Appeals Court Judge Merrick Garland.

“In addition to throwing millions of families across our country into a state of uncertainty, this decision reminds us how much damage Senate Republicans are doing by refusing to consider President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Our families and our country need and deserve a full bench, and Senate Republicans need to stop playing political games with our democracy and give Judge Merrick Garland a fair hearing and vote,” Clinton said.

Obama also framed the decision as a choice the voters must make about what type of country they want.

The Washington Post reports:

“Here’s the bottom line: We’ve got a very real choice that America faces right now,” Obama said during a hastily arranged appearance in the White House briefing room. “We’ve got a choice about who we’re going to be as a country, what we want to teach our kids, and how we want to be represented in Congress and in the White House.”

In addition, Obama attacked presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump for his plan to build a border wall and deport 11 million illegal immigrants.

The Post also reports:

And, he added, “it demeans our tradition of being both a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants. Immigration is not something to fear. Nor do we have to wall ourselves off from those who may not look like us.”

Do you agree with Obama that amnesty represents our values and that Trump’s plan to secure our borders attacks American traditions?

The Fifth Circuit was spot on with this ruling.
