More on two deplorable broadsides below. Putin and Obama are polar opposites - Russias leader a man of peace, seeking mutual cooperation among all nations v. Obamas rage for endless wars, seeking unchallenged global dominance. Putins refreshing straight talk candidness and honesty contrast sharply with Obamas double-talk demagoguery. On the occasion of Americas Independence Day, Russias leader graciously reached out to his US counterpart, saying: The history of Russian-American relations shows that when we act as equal partners and respect each others lawful interests, we are able to successfully resolve the most complex international issues for the benefit of both countries peoples and all of humanity. Obama failed to respond, showing contempt for normalization, prioritizing adversarial relations instead - getting a steady drumbeat of scoundrel media support, open sewer misinformation and Big Lies, an imperial propaganda echo chorus. Weeks earlier, NYT editors shamelessly accused Putin of duplicity
in Syria and elsewhere, sounding like an administration propaganda press release, ignoring Obamas wars of aggression in multiple theaters. Assad remains in power largely because of Russian military assistance, they said. Fact: In June 2014, he was overwhelmingly reelected, independent international observers calling the process open, free and fair. Times editors: Putin isnt persuading Assad to let aid get through to Syrians in need. Fact: Russia and Syria are supplying humanitarian aid to areas where its possible to deliver it, not under US-supported terrorist control. Times editors: Mr. Putin has been unable or unwilling to stop Mr. Assad from shelling civilians. Fact: Russian and Syrian forces are combating US-supported imported death squads, going all-out to protect civilians from harm, a daunting task, facing heavy weapons supplied ISIS and likeminded groups, committing high crimes against Syrian civilians. Times editors: Syria is just one arena where Mr. Putins obsessive quest to make Russia great again has fueled instability and reawakened political suspicions and animosities that faded after the fall of the Soviet Union. Fact: Putin is the preeminent peacemaker among world leaders. Claiming he has revanchist aims is pure rubbish. No credible evidence suggests it. Times editors continue repeating the tired old canard about nonexistent Russian aggression, recklessly calling on US-dominated NATO to reassert resolve, barely stopping short of urging direct confrontation. Neocon Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin edged closer. Turning truth on its head, he headlined The US cant ignore Russia or its increasingly horrendous behavior. No responsible editors would touch this rubbish. Neocon WaPo ones featured it, Rogin citing illegitimate former Ukrainian prime minister Arseniy Yatsensuk as one of his sources - a US installed putschist official, earlier on German television saying Soviet Russia invaded Nazi Germany during WW II, not the other way around as is well documented. According to Yatsenyuk, (e)very single day (Russians) kill Ukrainian soldiers, every single day the death toll is rising, every single day weve got civilian casualties. There is no cease-fire on the ground. Fact: US-installed putschists bear full responsibility for waging war without mercy on Donbass, willfully murdering civilians in cold blood - courageously contested by Donetsk and Lugansk freedom fighters, rejecting fascist rule, wanting democracy theyre denied. On July 5, the Donetsk Peoples Republic (DPR) operational command issued the following statement: The enemy fired 146 shells of 120mm caliber and 148 shells of 82mm caliber. Moreover, they used infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms. Nazi Kiev forces opened fire at DPRs south - settlements of Leninskoye, Vasilyevka, Sakhanka and Kominternovo, town of Dokuchaevsk, villages of Zaytsevo and Golmovsky near Gorlovka, Yasinovataya, Spartak, Veseloye and Mineralnoye. Nazi Ukrainian forces also shelled the Petrovsky district in the west of Donetsk and the airport on the northern outskirts of the city. Kiev systematically violated Minsk ceasefire terms straightaway after agreeing to observe them - in league with Washington wanting war, not peace, continuing low-level, at risk of escalating again full-blown. Pseudo-journalists like Rogin never let facts interfere with their propagandizing. Urging Washington push back more against (nonexistent) Russian provocations is recklessly close to suggesting direct confrontation. The deplorable state of mainstream US journalism continues reaching for new lows. Its hard imagining why anyone follows it. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
