War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: New York Times Hypocrisy on Iraq War New York Times Hypocrisy on Iraq War by Stephen Lendman In the run-up to the 2003 war, The Times was the leading instrument of US propaganda, flagrantly breaching journalistic ethics, featuring shameless daily misreporting, its longstanding practice. It substituted willful misinformation for hard truths, a daily drumbeat, supporting naked aggression against a nonbelligerent country based entirely on Big Lies. Mea culpas when its too late to matter ring hollow. Times editors headlining Iraq War Lies, 13 Years Later ignore consistent editorial support for US imperial policy, Obamas multiple wars of aggression, confrontational policy toward Russia and China, as well as backing, sanitizing or ignoring Israels worst crimes. Saying Bush/Blair et al created a false case for invading Iraq and then utterly mismanaged the occupation fails to explain these lawless acts and The Times role in facilitating them. Disgraced reporter Judith Miller operated as a virtual Pentagon press agent, featuring a Noahs Ark of liars and scam artists in daily front page features. Credible sources like former US chief weapons inspector for Iraq Scott Ritter were ignored, explaining no WMDs existed. Site inspections found nothing. Theyd been abandoned for years. Claiming otherwise was willful lying. In August 1995, Saddams son-in-law, Hussein Kamel, defected to the West - explaining in debriefings (a)ll weapons - biological, chemical, missile and nuclear - were destroyed
Nothing remained. At the time, the NYT and other US media reported it. CNNs Brent Sadler asked Kamel: Can you state here and now - does Iraq still to this day hold weapons of mass destruction? Kamel responded (n)o. Iraq does not possess any weapons of mass destruction. I am being completely honest about this. The Times and other media sources explained none of this in the run-up to war - featuring Big Lies, suppressing vital hard truths. The rest is history. US imperialism raped and destroyed the cradle of civilization, one of historys great crimes. Millions died, millions more displaced. Dystopian harshness persists - endless violence, chaos and unspeakable human misery. On March 19, 2013, Times editors headlined Ten Years After, saying the Iraq war still haunts the United States. (It) was unnecessary, costly and damaging on every level. It was based on faulty intelligence manipulated for ideological reasons. The terrible human and economic costs over the past 10 years show why that must never happen again. Fact: War was waged to advance Americas imperium, eliminate an Israeli rival, and control Iraqs vast hydrocarbon reserves - based on willful Big Lies, not faulty intelligence. Fact: (N)ever happen(ing) again keeps repeating. Multiple Obama wars rage, endorsed by Times editors. Hypocrisy and support for imperial lawlessness define their agenda. Longstanding Times policy endorses all US wars, naked aggression each time, flagrantly violating international and constitutional laws. Post-facto mea culpas ring hollow.
