Sanders: Hoisted on His Own Petard by Stephen Lendman His lofty-sounding campaign rhetoric was duplicitous hyperbole, willful deception, BS, another political fraudster exposed, a charlatan - pathetically pandering to what he pretended to oppose. Everything he said on the stump was counter to what he supports. His Tuesday endorsement of Clinton was despicable, morally and ethically cowardly, a shameless example of soul-selling for the whole world to see. He’s just another dirty politician like all the rest, selling out for special benefits afforded him. What backroom deal was cut? Was he offered a high-level Clinton administration post if she’s elected, perhaps as running mate? Candidates speak with forked tongues. Nothing they say is credible. Sanders earlier: Is Clinton “qualified to be president…when (she’s) rais(ed) millions of dollars from Wall Street whose greed, recklessness and illegal behavior helped to destroy our economy?” Sanders now: Clinton “won the Democratic nominating process, and I congratulate her for that. She will be the Democratic nominee for president and I intend to do everything I can to make certain she will be the next president of the United States.” Sanders earlier: “The ruling class has radically changed the nature of our democracy. It has further tilted the balance of power toward the rich and the powerful.” Sanders now: “(T)here is no doubt in my mind that…Hillary Clinton is far and away the best candidate (to address) serious crises” facing America. Sanders earlier: “I proudly stood with the workers. Secretary Clinton stood with the big money interests.” Sanders now: “Hillary Clinton understands that we must fix an economy in America that is rigged and that sends almost all new wealth and income to the top one percent.” Sanders earlier: Bill and Hillary Clinton run “a foundation…collecting many millions of dollars from foreign governments…which are dictatorships…(D)o I have a problem with that? Yeah I do.” Sanders now: Not a word in his Tuesday endorsement about Bill and Hillary’s foundation - a money-laundering, self-enrichment racket masquerading as a charitable NGO - nothing! Sanders earlier: “Secretary Clinton voted for virtually all…disastrous trade agreements.” She endorsed TPP, then flip-flopped disingenuously, a thinly veiled ploy to win votes. As secretary of state, she called it “the gold standard in trade agreements to open free, transparent, fair trade, the kind of environment that has the rule of law and a level playing field.” Sanders now: Hillary “concluded it was a good idea to oppose the TPP…She wants to create millions of new jobs…” Obama pledged the same thing, a jobs destroyer, not creator throughout his tenure. Phony monthly Labor Department reports hide what’s going on. Years into so-called recovery, nearly one-fourth of working-aged Americans are unemployed, most others way underemployed. Clinton is cut out of the same mold - beholden solely to monied interests, popular ones be damned. Sanders earlier: “…I don’t think Hillary Clinton can lead a political revolution.” Sanders now: “Hillary Clinton knows that something is very wrong when the very rich become richer while many others are working longer hours for lower wages.” “Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president, and I am proud to stand with her here today.” On Tuesday and in stump speeches, Sanders was silent about raging US imperial wars in multiple theaters - Clinton responsible for waging them on Libya and Syria, naked aggression against nonbelligerent states. Except for Bush’s Iraq war, Sanders’ voting record shows he backs them - an imperial warrior pretending otherwise, silent about high crimes against peace. He’s progressive in name only.
