Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The "right to contract" is specified in the Constitution also but EVERY TIME you sign your name you are making a "contract" which violate the above 13th amendment. BUT it is not a "violation" because you "volenteered". Poster Comment: These shows you'll have to listen to a number of times before it sinks in, at least for me it was. Good post. I love Lysander Spooner Dr. Barnett is a great libertarian devoted to a difficult project.
You can't BAN a site inside of the borders of a country, BTP. It is simply NOT possible. That is an idiotic thing to say.

" So, China is not STOPPING people from seeing the site, GOOGLE is. There is an ENORMOUS difference between saying that CHINA is stopping certain things from being accessed in their country and that GOOGLE is WILLINGLY DOING it.
China stipulated that for Google to operate in China they must prohibit certain websites from being viewed, in Google. China "dictated", Google implimented.
China ASKED, Google DID. Google is the one doing the CENSORING. There is nothing that China could have done to google if they chose not to comply. What are they gonna do, lauch a military strick against them? GOOGLE it the one participating in censorship.

And just HOW is China gonna stop them? You can't STOP the internet from getting to my computer. SO, there is no way for them to stop Google from getting into China uncensored. GOOGLE engaged in CENSORSHIP by agreeing with China's REQUEST. They didn't have to do it, they CHOSE to do it.
Don't you understand, if they didn't agree, China would not have allowed to offer it in their country. China has the upper hand. When someone has the upper hand you are not a sovern. Listen to the shows instead of arguing about China. But thank you for keeping this thread at the top.
How is China gonna stop them? They can't stop satellite transmission, they can't stop cell phones... all they can do is LIMIT access... they can NOT stop them.

See, I just proved that you were wrong and this is all you can respond with now. There is no way China could have stopped Google from getting in their country. GOOGLE is engaging in overt censorship and you are trying to put the blame on China.

Google to censor itself in China Thursday, January 26, 2006 Posted: 0540 GMT (1340 HKT) (CNN) -- Internet search engine Google has rolled out a China-based version of its popular Web site -- one that bows to Beijing's censorship laws and will edit the content of its results. Google.cn -- the Chinese language version of the search portal -- debuted Wednesday with the company acknowledging the balancing act it was attempting to perform. "In order to operate from China, we have removed some content from the search results available on Google.cn, in response to local law, regulation or policy," a Google statement said. "While removing search results is inconsistent with Google's mission, providing no information (or a heavily degraded user experience that amounts to no information) is more inconsistent with our mission." Google said it intends to report to users when information is removed from search results. The company says it does the same thing in response to local laws in Germany, France and the United States. Prior to Wednesday's debut in China, Google operated the Chinese-language version of the search engine through a link on its U.S. Web site, http://Google.com. Previously, the Beijing government blocked the results of search requests that violated its regulations. The new Google site will self-censor based on Chinese law. The Google statement said the tradeoff for going against its basic principle of making the "world's information universally available and accessible" is gaining greater access to a quickly growing Chinese economy. "As an emerging economic powerhouse, China is developing rapidly, thanks in no small measure to the Internet," Google said. "We firmly believe, with our culture of innovation, Google can make meaningful and positive contributions to the already impressive pace of development in China." Google's cooperation with the Chinese government comes on the heels of the company's resistance to a U.S. Justice Department subpoena, asking Google to turn over a week's worth of search results. The request is part of a case designed to protect children from Internet porn. Block them from operating in China.. plain and simple.
And just HOW could they BLOCK them from operating in China? Do tell... They can't STOP them from being on the internet, and China can't control all the internet access in their country. China bluffed and Google flinched, and then willingly engaged in censorship.

Zip, This does not in any way take away from the fact that GOOGLE engaged in SELF CENSORSHIP, China simply made a request. China can not force Google to censor themselves, NOR can they stop Google from getting into their country. My initial assertion was that China could not BAN Google from their country. Which is correct, they can't.
