NYT v. Trump on Putin and Ukraine

by Stephen Lendman

The Times is one-sidedly pro-Clinton, virulently anti-Trump - glorifying one candidate unworthy of any public office, bashing the other with no public record on which to judge him, just his rhetoric too often over-the-top.

On ABC News Sunday, Trump repeated what he’s said before. He prefers normalized relations with Russia to adversarial ones like now, saying:

“(I)f we can have a good relationship with Russia and if Russia would help us get rid of ISIS, frankly, as far as I’m concerned, you’re talking about tremendous amounts of money and lives and everything else. That would be a positive thing, not a negative thing.”

Putin’s “not going into Ukraine, OK? Just so you understand, he’s not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down and you can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want.”

Trump indicated a willingness to consider recognizing Crimea as part of Russia. “I’m going to take a look at it,” he said. But you know, the people of Crimea…would rather be with Russia than where they were. And you have to look at that, also.”

He blasted Obama’s Ukraine policy. “It’s a mess,” he said. “I will do better and…have a better relationship with Russia…not a bad thing.”

The Times invents reasons to bash him, this time saying “what he understands about the current status of Ukraine…and how it would change in a Trump administration…is difficult given (his) fractured…statements.”

“Fractured?” Anyone reading his above comments understands him perfectly.

“…Trump has seemingly embraced Mr. Putin,” said The Times, “and shown an unwillingness to condemn (him) for his aggressive actions against Russia’s neighbors and his crackdowns on freedoms at home.”

Fact: Neither Trump nor The Times explained Washington ousted Ukraine’s democratically elected government in February 2014. Nazi-infested putschists were installed to replace it, headed by a US-selected billionaire oligarch, a convenient puppet overwhelmingly despised by his people.

Fact: Trump is fair game for lots of justifiable criticism - wanting normalized ties with Russia a reason for praise.

Fact: He’s right calling Ukraine a mess but should have explained it’s fascist despotism in Europe’s heartland, a dagger held by Washington targeting Russia belligerently, a potential flashpoint threatening world peace.

Fact: Trump willing to consider recognizing Crimea as part of Russia would acknowledge a fait accompli, Crimeans overwhelmingly voting to join the Russian Federation, their right under international law.

Fact: Putin accommodated their wishes. He supports the right of southeastern Ukrainian Donbass freedom fighters to reject illegitimate fascist rule.

Fact: No evidence suggests Putin’s “aggressive actions against Russia’s neighbors and… crackdowns on freedoms at home.”

Fact: Plenty proves America wages war on humanity - at home and abroad. Growing homeland tyranny is replacing the remnants of a free society fast disappearing.

The New York Times is no exemplar of high-mindedness, no model of journalistic ethics and integrity, no champion of moral principles and righteousness, no truth-teller the way journalism is supposed to be.

Managed news misinformation and Big Lies substitute. Crimea wasn’t “a power grab and a land grab by Mr Putin.” No “Russian aggression” exists against Ukraine or any other country.

No “little green men” operate illegally abroad. Most everything The Times reports on major domestic or geopolitical issues is rife with scandalous distortions, deception and bald-faced lies.

Believe none of the rubbish it publishes. Better still - ignore it entirely. Choose reliable alternative sources for real news, information and analysis.
