Donald Trump gave a sneak preview of his July fundraising numbers on Monday, saying he raised at least $35.8 million from small donations. "We have raised, with the small donors, $35.8 million. I believe it's 517,000 [donations]. Think about that: that's in a month," he said Monday during a rally in Columbus, Ohio.
"How incredible is that? It's not even to me the money; it's the concept."
He added that the average donation he received was $69 and that the total doesn't include donations from those "putting up larger numbers."
Presidential candidates have to report donations monthly. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, said his campaign will release more details on Tuesday. His campaign did not respond to a request for more information.
Trump raised $51 million in total last month, with $26 million going directly to the campaign and the remainder being split among the national and state parties. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton raised more than $68 million, with more than $40 million going directly to the campaign.
Trump said his supporters shouldn't be worried by any fundraising deficit because he'll have his hands clean when elected.
"I'm going to do what's right for you," he said.
"She has got to do right for her donors."
