War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: NYT Editors Support Provocative US Actions in Asia NYT Editors Support Provocative US Actions in Asia by Stephen Lendman America is incrementally heading toward global war on three fronts - Russia in Eastern Europe, Iran in the Middle East, and China in Asia, challenging these countries aggressively. Times editors called Obamas destructive agenda unfinished business in Asia, following completion of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Vientiane, Laos. Instead of denouncing Washingtons provocative military footprint and political pressure in a part of the world not its own, Times editors expressed support for US actions heading for eventual war if not stopped - calling them Obamas broad efforts to strengthen engagements with countries in the region. US Asian policy aims to isolate China, much like its treating Russia and Iran (the 2015 nuclear deal aside) with hostile intent in mind against these countries. Times editors lied about a nonexistent North Korea threat. They lied, claiming America represents a stabilizing presence in the region. They lied about nonexistent increasing (Chinese) assertiveness, especially in the South China Sea. America acts like its sovereign waters belong to the USA. They lied about opening a new chapter with Laos. They ignored Americas rape and destruction of the country from 1965 - 1973 - flying 580,000 sorties, dropping over two million tons of ordnance round-the-clock for nine years, massacring, injuring or displacing around one-third of its 6.5 million people at the time, overwhelming devastation against a country threatening no one. They said nothing about Americas ruthless imperial agenda, its genocidal wars in Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and elsewhere. They credited Obama and George Bush with building alliances with Asian nations - forced on them by heavy pressure and other bullying tactics. They support provocative US regional military exercises and weapons sales intended for war. All this took hard diplomatic work, claimed The Times, ignoring Americas heavy hand in all parts of the world, exerting its will on others, threatening independent countries with regime change. The Times supports the pro-Western administrative Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Philippines v. China ruling, irresponsibly hostile to Beijing - the case argued by the Washington- based law firm Foley Hoag with close Obama administration ties. Chinese authorities neither accepts nor recognizes its ruling, saying PCA has no legal jurisdiction to adjudicate whats disputed. Its Foreign Ministry called it null and void (with) no binding force. Diplomacy is the proper way to settle territorial and other disputes between nations. The Times backs PCAs hostile ruling. So does Obama. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is more reasoned, preferring normalized ties with China over confrontational ones. Vladimir Putin supports Beijing, calling foreign regional meddling harmful and counterproductive, adding: We stand in solidarity and support of Chinas position
not to recognize the PCA ruling, based solely on legal, not political grounds. (A)rbitration proceedings should be initiated by the disputing parties
China didnt address the PCA. Its position wasnt heard. How can you recognize a ruling as fair when only one nations arguments were heard, presented by US lawyers, not Philippine ones. Times editors ignored what should have been explained, backing Washingtons hostile China agenda. They strongly support freedom-destroying corporate coup detat TPP legislation - a measure to more greatly empower business predators over popular interests than already. The Times serves as a press agent for wealth, power and privilege. Its anti-Sino/Russia/Iran position makes eventual global nuclear war more possible. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
