Understanding why is simple. Washington and its rogue allies continue arming, funding, training and directing ISIS and other terrorist groups, using them as imperial foot soldiers to destroy Syrian sovereignty, wanting it replaced with US-controlled puppet governance. No so-called moderates exist. All anti-government forces are terrorists, cutthroat killers, US- backed death squads for regime change. American objectives havent changed. Kerrys lofty rhetoric in Geneva was duplicitous, concealing Washingtons intention to continue conflict until Syria is transformed into another US vassal state. Its Russias responsibility to prevent it, maintaining pressure, continuing to hammer terrorist forces, along with aiding its Syrian ally defend its sovereignty against US-sponsored aggression to destroy it. Reuters reported fighting still rages in Aleppo on Saturday - hours after the United States and Russia hailed a (supposed) breakthrough deal to put Syrias peace process back on track. Anti-government terrorists continue being imported from scores of countries. Syrias military is obligated to combat them - a scourge vital to eliminate, the only chance for eventual liberation. According to Reuters, conflict continues on all the fronts of southern Aleppo without letup. Its ongoing in other US-backed terrorist infested areas. Cessation of hostilities and peace remain distant. America supposedly partnering with Russia responsibly to end Syrias conflict is pure fantasy. Fridays announced breakthrough deal looks dead-on-arrival like all previous efforts at conflict resolution. Mutual trust is nonexistent. Ahead of Friday Russia/US talks, Saudi-cobbled together anti-Assad terrorist groups representing the so-called High Negotiations Committee issued an ultimatum certain to be refused on ending ongoing conflict. It calls for regime change like earlier, Assad removed, Syrians having no say over wholl lead them, transitional governance installed ahead of instituting full-blown tyranny under US-led control. These type proposals show why peace in Syria is unattainable by diplomatic means. Removing Assad would mean America and its rogue allies prevailed, Russia, Syrian sovereignty, its people and populations throughout the region lost. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
