Media Scoundrels Mock Democratic Russian Elections

by Stephen Lendman

Independent international monitors called Russian parliamentarian and presidential elections open, free and fair when held in 2011 and 2012 respectively, minor irregularities alone found, not affecting final results.

Ignoring a system mocking America’s sham process, media scoundrels claimed otherwise, citing nonexistent widespread irregularities.

Prepare for the deluge post-election this time. Sunday comments were prelude for what’s coming. Ahead of final results, The New York Times claimed local irregularities, citing nonexistent “widespread perceptions of fraud” in 2011 and 2012, suggesting Sunday’s election may be “stolen.”

Its article was mostly devoted to Tolyatti, a medium-sized city of around 720,000, home to Russia’s largest car manufacturer AvtoVAZ, saying campaigning there “illustrates the gap between the promise of fair elections and the reality” - providing no credible corroborating evidence, Russia bashing alone substituting, typical Times misreporting, propaganda substituting for hard truths.

Expect lots more once election results are in while ignoring America’s hugely debauched system - fantasy democracy, not the real thing.

The Wall Street Journal used Sunday’s elections to bash Putin, saying “results are unlikely to test (his) dominance” - ignoring his overwhelming popularity. Russians want no one else leading them.

The Journal lied, claiming “parliamentary elections in 2011 were marred by allegations of widespread fraud…” Independent international monitors explained otherwise.

Misinformation continued, the Journal saying “the Kremlin wants a tightly scripted outcome.” Washington and media scoundrels recognize no election results in sovereign nations independent of US dominance - especially Russia.

The neocon Washington Post surprisingly went with a brief AP report, explaining little more than 450 State Duma seats at stake, ruling United Russia with around 50% support based on recent poll results, similar to 2011 election results.

Maybe it’s saving its ammunition for post-election bashing - instead of denouncing America’s sham process and acknowledging real democracy in Russia. Its people alone decide who’ll represent and lead them, not power brokers, US voters having no say whatever.
