Vicious Trump Bashing Ahead of Monday’s Presidential Debate

by Stephen Lendman

Continuing their dual role as Hillary’s lead press agents, abandoning fair and balanced reporting entirely, neoliberal NYT editors and their neocon Washington Post counterparts unleashed an anti- Trump blitzkrieg ahead of Monday’s “debate.”

What’s coming is far from what debating is supposed to be all about. An earlier article discussed the Socratic method, involving opposing sides asking and answering questions.

Ideas are freely aired. Beliefs are challenged. Truths are sought. Critical thinking is stimulated. Opinions are formed. Conclusions are reached through free and open dialogue and discussion.

Debates should give opposing sides full opportunity to air views while challenging those of others. What’s coming in all three presidential “debates” is pre-scripted theater, resembling stump campaigning, involving talk without substance, leaving voters uninformed on what they need to know.

Times and WaPo editors one-sidedly support Hillary, ignoring her war crimes, racketeering and perjury, operating like they’re part of her campaign, bashing Trump relentlessly because US power brokers and monied interests aren’t sure he’s entirely controllable.

Who ever heard of an anti-establishment billionaire, yet he sounds like one. Favoring better relations with Russia scares them. So does his opposition to TPP and calling NATO obsolete.

Headlining “Why Donald Trump Should Not Be President,” Times editors substituted hyperbole for good judgment, calling his views “matters of dangerous impulse and cynical pandering rather than thoughtful politics.”

That was prelude to accusing him of “bursts of false and outrageous allegations, personal insults, xenophobic nationalism, unapologetic sexism and positions that shift according to his audience and his whims.”

At the same time, not a word about Hillary’s longstanding war crimes, support for all US wars of aggression since husband Bill’s rape of Yugoslavia, Hillary urging him to terror-bomb Belgrade, massacring defenseless residents.

Nothing about her email scandal, lying about it to FBI investigators and Congress. Not a word about the Clinton Foundation money-laundering self-enrichment racket, posing as a charitable NGO. Silence on the most recklessly dangerous presidential aspirant in US history - no explanation of her despicable public record.

Both candidates are the most widely reviled ones in US history. Neither deserves public support. Independents Jill Stein and Gary Johnson are prohibited from participating - so voters won’t hear alternative views on how America should be governed.

They have no say over who runs the nation and deplorable policies continuing in their name - their tax dollars going for harms their well-being, security and futures.

Times editors rattled off a stream of anti-Trump pejoratives, not a fair and balanced view throughout their tirade - uproariously ending by calling US presidents “role models for generations of our children.”

A rogue’s gallery of miscreants served as US presidents from inception. Except for Jack Kennedy’s transformation in office from warrior to peacemaker (why he was assassinated), not a worthy one in the bunch.

For sure neither Trump or Hillary. She’s the most despicable and dangerous of the two.

Neocon WaPo editors’ headline trumpeted “It’s beyond debate that Donald Trump is unfit to be president” - by implication saying “crooked,” “trigger-happy,” serial lying Hillary is.

“(T)he challenge for Monday’s audience is to avoid the trap of thinking of this debate as yet another opportunity for ‘the real Trump’ - or even a ‘new Trump’ - to emerge,” said WaPo editors.

Same old serial lying Hillary will oppose him. Whether both aspirants comport themselves or engage in mudsling remains to be seen.

One thing for sure. Three so-called debates won’t reveal dirty business as usual continuing no matter who succeeds Obama - one or the other duopoly power candidates always winning, voters consistently losing out.

I won’t be watching. Listening is too painful. I’ll comment on what both candidates said from transcripts of their remarks.

The more that Trump is bashed, the stronger and more popular he becomes.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken
