Hillary Clinton is HIV positive, according to a shock claim by a Washington D.C. call-girl who says she was diagnosed with the virus after a pay for play fling with former President Bill Clinton in April of last year. “Bill Clinton visited me one night when he was in town, and he left me with more than a cash payment,” said Mandy Cloud, the pseudonym the former D.C. call-girl chose for her book set to be published next month. I am no fan of Bubba or Bubbette!,but this is pure HorseHillary. We are supposed to believe there is a hooker who only has 1 client in a weeks time,and then comes down with and is diagnosed with AIDS before she takes on another customer? What is the rational for suggesting that because Bill has AIDS, Hillary does as well?

I'm no medical expert on the matter, but I question whether an HIV infection would be detected so quickly after actual infection. Might it take at least several weeks before a viral infection grows sufficiently to causes sufficient amount of matching anti-bodies to be produced? I think HIV is not detected directly, but HIV tests instead test for the anti-bodies that are produced in response to HIV infection. On the other hand, I would expect a professional call girl to have to facts down pat. Cloud says she worked as a high-end call-girl in the world’s most powerful city for 14 years, and claims she went for routine STD tests every other week. Anyone who has these symptoms for more than two weeks should see a doctor. The time between infection with the virus and the onset of symptoms of AIDS (the incubation period) ranges from a few months to ten years or more. Infected persons can spread the virus during the incubation period.

While what you say is reasonable, the more sensational the story, the more you want to check it out. Not trying to be a wise guy, but something about the timeline didn't seem right to me. I seem to remember hearing that it does take a while for a victim to show symptoms, like weeks or months. It takes three months for the antibodies to show up on a lab test. Correct me if I'm wrong. This ain't my area. I am willing to believe nearly ANYTHING about Billy Clinton, but I'll take some of these stories with a grain of salt. The time between infection with the virus and the onset of symptoms of AIDS (the incubation period) ranges from a few months to ten years or more.
Antibody tests ("Rapid" tests) — give a positive result based on antibodies to HIV, not the virus itself. It takes your body up to 3 months to produce these antibodies at levels that can be detected by this test. 12 weeks (3 months) after infection, about 98% of people will have enough antibodies to test positive.
