War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: US Peace Council Denounces Imperialism US Peace Council Denounces Imperialism by Stephen Lendman Calling peace everybodys business, the US Peace Council (USPC) opposes lawless imperialism, supports social justice, the rights and needs of working people, fundamental freedoms, inviolable rule of law principles, and a healthy environment. Its against all US wars and occupations, wanting the return of all US and foreign troops. It knows achieving its objectives requires unity among all those struggling for peace and justice worldwide. It calls for strict enforcement of UN Charter provisions. Article 2 states (a)ll Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state
According to Article 52, (n)othing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations. Opposing regime change in Syria isnt the same as supporting Assad, it explains. Syrians alone may decide wholl lead them, free from foreign interference. In August, it expressed dismay over a significant segment of the US peace and anti-war movement (believing) the distortions and misrepresentations promoted by the US State Department - media scoundrels supporting what demands denunciation. Last July, a 7-member USPC delegation comprised of labor activists, lawyers, academics and independent journalists spent six days in Syria on a fact-finding mission. Discussions were held with civil society organizations, nonviolent opposition parties, Muslim and Christian religious leaders, students, business officials, imperial victims, Syrian Bar Association members, womens rights activists, parliamentarians from different parties, and high-level government officials, including President Assad for nearly two hours. USPC said the trips mission was to experience firsthand whats happening on the ground, and how its affecting the lives of the Syrian people. Its goal was and continues to be finding a way to end war, enormous loss of life, vast destruction, and appalling human suffering. Its delegates were deeply impressed by the unity and determination of the Syrian people to defend their country and sovereignty; their rejection of efforts to divide the population along sectarian lines; and their determined emphasis (to explain) what is going on in Syria is not a civil war but a foreign imposed invasion. Its Executive Board member/delegation co-leader Henry Lowendorf said (w)hat we saw goes against everything we read in the United States. The mission of America and its rogue partners isnt liberating Syria or any other nation targeted. Its destroying their sovereignty, ousting their leadership and governments, replacing them with US- controlled regimes. Self-determination is a universal right. No nation may impose its rule on any other. America does it repeatedly in flagrant violation of fundamental international law - automatically US law under the Constitutions Supremacy Clause (Article VI, Clause 2).
