War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: US Never Serious About Conflict Resolution in Syria US Never Serious About Conflict Resolution in Syria by Stephen Lendman America doesnt wage wars to quit - not since its humiliating April 30, 1975 Saigon embassy rooftop exit, ending its longest ever war, surpassed in duration by continuing aggression in Afghanistan - a forever war, perhaps never to end in our lifetimes. Many months of Russia/US talks for cessation of hostilities and conflict resolution in Syria were doomed from their outset - so-called bilateral cooperation more fantasy than real. Mondays State Department announced suspension of participation in bilateral channels with Russia established to sustain the cessation of hostilities in Syria shouldnt have surprised anyone following events closely. A duplicitous statement from spokesman admiral John Kirby irresponsibly blamed Russia for what America deliberately sabotaged. Saying Moscow failed to live up to its commitments was willful lying. Commenting on Kirbys announcement, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said his government wasnt notified in advance, showing Washington wants continued conflict, not resolution. US warplanes terror-bombing Syrian forces last month, along with Washington conspiring with al- Nusra terrorists days later to attack a humanitarian convoy for Aleppo, destroying 18 trucks and their cargos, aimed to undermine Russias good faith ceasefire efforts. Sergey Lavrov minced no words, saying (r)egettably from the very beginning
many (US officials) s(ought) to break down (ceasefire and conflict resolution) agreements. Obama administration hardliners against political settlement of the Syrian crisis, against the implementation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and who are openly seeking to employ a force scenario ultimately managed to do that yesterday. Ive said the same thing numerous times in five simple words: America wants war, not peace. Its indeed regrettable and deplorable, as Lavrov explained - but not surprising. Russia and America have longstanding irreconcilable differences on US imperial recklessness, especially its aggressive wars, raging endlessly - heading for inevitable direct confrontation between both countries. Instead of promoting mutual cooperation among all nations and world peace, America belligerently forces its will on others. Todays stakes couldnt be higher. Washingtons rage for global dominance threatens everyone everywhere - yet too few seem to notice. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
