The War in Syria Is Headed for Catastrophe, But US Politicians Are Blind Washington does not possess mature statesmen who know when it's time to back down and negotiate The author is a concerned world citizen and wrote this essay especially for RI Let us assume that the US of A and pals are correct and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and pals are the real culprits of the bloodshed that has been happening for at least 5 years in Syria. Assuming that international law is on the side of the exceptional country and its allies, what can the shining city on top of the hill do to stop this ongoing massacre of Syrians?. US top officials and think tankers have been saying that in order to stop the bloodbath they need to up the ante and send more weapons to the rebels so the SAA and pals start suffering higher costs. In other words, they conclude the best way to achieve peace is to wage war, more war. However, since the beginning of the rebellion until now we all have noticed that the SAA is determined to regain control of Syrias full geography and will not give up this fight. Even less now that powerful pals have come to its aid with sophisticated weapons, tactics and highly trained, ferocious soldiers who prefer to get blown up by their own bombs rather than allowing the rebels to stain their glorious uniforms. So, from my point of view, waging more war against SAA will not end up in peace but in a bigger catastrophe. Some examples? Im not that good in war history but there is one country located in the south east of Asia that witnessed the escalation of US presence in its territory. Starting as few special operations advisers that later would become thousands of GI Joes who, I can bet my cat, were dispatched to increase the costs of the native, highly patriotic and hence determined defending forces just like the SAA. Since this is not a war history piece, Ill let the more studied to enlighten us with other examples where increased violence did not result in lasting peace but examples portraying the opposite are also welcomed. Assuming that the abusing and killing of children, teenagers, adults, elders who used to enjoy a high standard of living and assuming that the destruction and pollution of ecosystems and its resources are real concerns to the rulers of the beacon of world democracy and justice then what can they do to achieve long lasting peace? If you are not part of the worlds deep state establishment nor a regular joe / jane craving to become part of the deep state, then the logic answer is to stop financing, training, arming, in short, supporting the armies of foreign mercenaries flown from different countries to Syria and push for a political solution. Can a political solution be pushed without violence or can a political solution not be imposed by war? Are there ways to twist arms by other means than bombing countries? Professional, mature and grown up diplomats say so and what is more surprising Al Assad has accomplished several political deals with different rebel groups. However if you do not trust Al Assad there is an array of tools, different to the ones used to kill, to achieve the leverage needed to stop the current carnage. I bet my other cat that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin will happily put some pressure on his Syrian mate if sanctions are vanished, NATO is sent back to its pre-Berlin Wall fall borders and Ukraine is given back to Ukrainians. But wait, that requires honest, professional, grown up, mature politicians willing to never back down and never surrender - except for this very one time. Poster Comment: "The War in Syria Is Headed for Catastrophe, But US Politicians Are Blind" No, they are not blind, they are sick psychopaths. They want chaos and destruction - all over the world. These insane American politicians, military, bankers and military industry bosses, believe this is the way to maintain or regain "Global, even better, Full Spectrum Hegemony". War makes money for them. They are not interested in solutions. Why are there" so few people who cannot see this? Look back from, including WW2. All wars ended up in total disaster and chaos and Americans made a lot of money out of it. It is not the average American to blame, no, it is the sick and totally insane American upper class. +11 Tatarewicz/ Cale True, politicians are not blind and what they're doing may look insane. But look at who hired them. The 500+ members of Congress were vetted by the Israeli lobby and when as candidates they agreed to support Israel the lobby and its Sayanim army provided the funding, publicity and organization to make sure they got elected. So when they provided trillions to fight Israel's enemies in Afghanistan and Iraq they're just doing what Israel expected them to do. Check this out in the Mershiemer/Walt book on the lobby.
