Title: Is Bush DOSing LibertyForum.org?

I moved to Oz from the US in 2002. Lately, http://www.LibertyForum.org (LF) has been beset by SQL errors, usually of the nature, 'Too many connections', but doing almost a core dump complete with other error messages. Now one might suspect these errors are truly due to 'too many connections', perhaps from http://www.whatreallyhappened.com 's frequently redirectly their own traffic over to LF. Except I live in Oz, both the other sites are in the US, and the problem actually gets worse when the Yanks are beddy bye.

Thus, it seems consistent to me that the problem is Bush administration-generated. In the time the US is wakeful, there is lots of 'net traffic, and less of the DOS gets through. At night (in the US, but not in Oz), there is less US-centric 'net traffic, and more of the DOSes get through.

The reason Bush et al would want to shut us all down is obvious. Sever knowledgeable communication, and stifle dissent. I mean, suppose all we ever had for our information input was Bush's State of the Union Speachs, and its spinoffs?

Well, that seems to be what it is coming to.

IMO that is the most bizarre issue.. who are they?? I cannot imagine a site running for how long without someone knowing who owns it and who is the sysop who does maintenance etc.. it just doesnt make sense.

It doesn't/didn't make sense but I suppose that was all part of the intrigue of the joint. The mystery of John Deere, his disappearance and who was behind the scenes still providing maintenance up until recently. The domain was paid up for another 12 months in November bringing it current to Feb07.

I've noticed that the [LF] site has been good for at least 6 hours

It has been heartwarming and encouraging to see so many familiars. I too USED to notice an occasional time window, sometimes after trying some of LF's other links, such as Latest Articles, rather than Self Search. But nothing on any of LF's links in the last two days.

I imagine it will be very difficult to contact any of the other LFers who are still stuck over there waiting for LF to clear up, and not having any idea where to go. I only found this place because with the increasing frequency of LF's problems, I was moved to search out articles, and found Mind_Virus' "Why I am leaving ...", in which he mentioned this site.

I dunno. Maybe Mike would put up a flag on WRH, but I think it might have to be some story, maybe like this one, except it seems there are several explanations less intriguing (and probably more accurate) than mine. And anyway, is this really the best alternative to LF? Not necessarily in terms of quality, but more in terms of look and feel?

Hey Rotten. Can you be more specific about exactly which six hours during the day?

There's something else the problem there now as the SQL errors are saying something different for the last 36 hours or so. Before that the site seemed to be good from about midnight my time to about 6-7am and then the dramas would kick in pretty much consistantly after that save a few breaks in between. Yesterday morning our time before it finally collapsed for good I woke up early and got nearly two hours unaffected posting time there. If you're looking for other LF'ers there are quite a few at http://www.nolajbs.net/forum/index .php .

Thanks Rotten. It's 4:47am Friday, and LF is totally stuffed. I just registered at NOLAJBS, although for some reason a lady had already registered 'Archie' two years ago, made two posts total in all the time since, and that was that. So I'm trying 'ArchieJ'. Looks like NOLAJBS has closer look and feel to it.

I just registered here. Was already registered over at http://nolajbs.net last fall -- there had been some controversy at LF -- can't remember what it was.

Nice to see so many familiar names at both forums -- names that goes back to TOS!

For me, it's back to lurking. :)

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I am really concerned that shutting down LF was not just a prank and that something may be up. I will get very paranoid if whatreallyhappened goes down.

Our software here is Neil McIver's Pinguinite. I find this so much more user friendly than I did LF or NOLA's format. NOLA (Joe) is also a member here and I'm a member of his forum too.

Btw, we're open to suggestions on improvements. One thing we will be adding soon is a key word field to aid in article searches.

What I wanna know is, can we say any damn thing we want to say without getting thrown off?

One of the things which made LF a target for the Fascist ZioNAZIS is that we could say anything about the little inbred animals.

People can talk about SQL errors all they want. LF was attacked and deliberately brought down.

So, how good is the software at this place?

4 is a free speech forum. christine and I take a hands off approach as far as moderation.

RE the software, I'll defer to Neil McIver who wrote the s/w and is our webmaster for specific questions re the s/w.

Zip and I are very hands off mods. We very much have the same philosophy as far as that goes as did LF. What we don't want here is paid shills and statists and the neo-crazies who come on here to attack us, all of our posters, and the forum as a whole because we do allow discussion of that topic.

Interesting the differences in culture between the sites. On LF TOS meant Terms Of Service, born of all the arguments about the rules. Here (and in the post FR tradition) it means That Other Site.

I'm puzzled not so much that problems occured, because they do from time to time as a matter of course, but that they are persisting and that no one has taken the time to replace the pages with a "temporarily out of order" message. If there are DB problems, the last thing you want people to do is to access DB functions as it can screw a broken database up even more. That's assuming the DB is broken as opposed to inaccessable.

An outside attack is repairable, particularly if it's some kind of DOS attack. And extended outage like this isn't consistant with an outside attack. It's instead characteristic of neglect.

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism -- ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power. Franklin Delano Roosevelt

I must admit to having a perpetual list of to-do items on improvements, but in it's present state, it's quite portable. Several forums are up and running with it now. The look of each can be very diverse. Various skins are possible even within a single forum.
