John McCain has had enough. The Arizona Republican and 2008 GOP presidential nominee said in a statement Saturday afternoon that he cannot support Trump any longer after published audio of him demeaning women and making sexually lewd statements. "In addition to my well known differences with Donald Trump on public policy issues, I have raised questions about his character after his comments on Prisoners of War, the Khan Gold Star family, Judge Curiel and earlier inappropriate comments about women. Just this week, he made outrageous statements about the innocent men in the Central Park Five case. "As I said yesterday, there are no excuses for Donald Trump’s offensive and demeaning comments in the just released video; no woman should ever be victimized by this kind of inappropriate behavior. He alone bears the burden of his conduct and alone should suffer the consequences. "I have wanted to support the candidate our party nominated. He was not my choice, but as a past nominee, I thought it important I respect the fact that Donald Trump won a majority of the delegates by the rules our party set. I thought I owed his supporters that deference. "But Donald Trump’s behavior this week, concluding with the disclosure of his demeaning comments about women and his boasts about sexual assaults, make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy. Cindy, with her strong background in human rights and respect for women fully agrees with me in this. "Cindy and I will not vote for Donald Trump. I have never voted for a Democratic presidential candidate and we will not vote for Hillary Clinton. We will write in the name of some good conservative Republican who is qualified to be President." McCain, who is currently in a re-election battle with congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, had publicly supported Trump for president, although the two have often been at odds over the last year. In a July, 2015, appearance in Iowa, Trump criticized McCain by saying, "I like people who weren't captured." It was a reference to McCain's time as a prisoner of war for 5 1/2 years in North Vietnam. But McCain later said that he would support Trump, albeit he has tried to maintain a distance. Trump tweeted that he would not drop out, and late in the afternoon, he emerged from Trump Tower in New York to greet and wave to some of his supporters gathered on the sidewalk outside. Asked by reporters if he was going to stay in the race, he said, "100%." Poster Comment: This is typical of McKook. I'm starting to smell a fish over this whole kerfluffle - too many Republicans (Paul Ryan/et al) are using this as an excuse to ditch their support for Donald Trump, and not a damn one of them will even say "Bill Clinton did WORSE".
You smell right. This is from the Bush cabal, taking their revenge for Trump daring to sideline one of theirs.
No doubt about it. After Trump walloped Jeb on his home turf, all bets were off. ;)
