PressTV... Mohsen Qamsari, the director for international affairs of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), says talks are underway to sell oil to Poland through long-term deals.

Iran says it is discussing a long-term deal to sell crude oil to Poland – what could widen the list of the country’s European oil clients once finalized.

Mohsen Qamsari, the director for international affairs of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), told Iranian media that talks with Poland’s Grupa Lotos to the same effect have just started but a final deal between the two sides is yet to be worked out.

Qamsari added that Grupa Lotos – which is Poland’s largest oil refining company – has already purchased a consignment comprising one million barrels of oil from Iran.

He emphasized that East European countries are currently the focus of NIOC’s post-sanctions marketing activities.

Apart from Poland, Qamsari further said, Iran has also sold a consignment comprising one million barrels of oil to Hungary.

“Talks are already underway with several East European countries over purchases of Iran’s crude oil,” the official added.

Grupa Lotos announced in September that it had purchased two consignments of oil from Iran.

“After the Iranian oil is refined, we will have detailed results of the analysis, which will confirm whether we will ultimately sign a long-term agreement with Iran on oil supplies to Gdansk,” Marcin Jastrzebski, Grupa Lotos deputy head, told reporters, as reported by Reuters.

Qamsari said in August that the NIOC is working on a plan to move from spot oil sales contracts to long-term ones with the Europeans.

He emphasized that long-term agreements secure stable sales of oil thus better protecting the interests of the country in terms of national revenues.
