How could anyone not love this song? Why you'd have to be a commie not to dig it. Regardless of all this country's problems it is still by far the best place to live. We still have the 1st and 2A, and the fighting spirit of liberty, which is inherent in American culture and much more than ANY other country has.

Even though the country and nation and people Lee is singing about here no longer exists, yes, I still love this song - and what it once stood for.

I have the 45 vinyl record, bought it in 1984. the song and all the memories associated with it are very meaningful. I believe that the nation and people do indeed still exist. no other such nation on earth, founded on the principles in the DOE and constitution, exists. having recently returned from outside the country for 3 months, I have a renewed appreciation and love for it. happens every time! I am not mocking that topic altogether because, and this is a true story, when I was a kid, my hippie cousin came over with a 33 of led zeppelin's stairway to heaven and played it backwards on our record player for my dad because he knew my dad was religious. that song is indeed satanic and I will never forget it. heard it with my own ears. they (the led zepellin Satanists screeched, ''oooh my sweet satan, he will give you 666! 666! 666!" over and over and over again, very clear. very creepy stuff. I never figgered out how to play a record backward. Please explain.

I don't remember if the turntable had a reverse switch or if the guy did it by hand., but it worked perfect. I recall evangelical fundies doing a lot of tv programs on this backwards masking type stuff in the 80s also.
