At the end of the day we're going to find that the opposition to this comes from longshoreman's unions and/or business interests operating behind the scenes.

The noise is being made by politicians in thrall to aforementioned unions/business interests who have contributed heavily to their campaigns, and by showboating politicians who are looking to distance themselves from Bush prepatory to upcoming campaigns.

Together they are capitalizing on post-9/11 paranoia to demagogue the issue and whip up hysteria among the electorate. 1 posted on 02/22/2006 10:35:17 AM PST by quidnunc [ Post Reply | Private Reply | View Replies ] To: quidnunc

That is what Rush said about the Longshoremen. Also I believe that we were too quick to rush to side with the Dems before all the facts were in. The Dems were looking for something to cling to and show the voters that they are just as tough on the WOT than the Republicans and Look we were first on this!

I cannot believe that people who call themselves American conservatives can stoop so low as to blame longshoremen for the resistance to selling our ports to the government of Dubai. Apparently some of the lunatics are buying it. Rush Limbaugh is the single most evil man in America - I've believed this for some time, but this kind of thing is the proof. He has way too much influence on the dim minds of the sheeple.

I listened to Rush spin two important points in the first five minutes of today's show.

First, why arn't the Danish companies or companies from Taiwan doing the job? Rush just mocked this, whispered "Chinese Commies" and "White Guys who killed Indians". But the numbnuts who follow him will only recall that the point has been addressed and answered.

Next he Demonized the Dems for being in the pro-security position. He explained that Hillary was only opposing Bush because the longshoreman's union was somehow involved.

All in all, real wacky stuff.

The "Limbaugh"tomized American middle/working class hates itself so much it wants to abolish itself. Without unions, the working class here would already be no better off than Chinese prisoners.

I can believe it.. they constantly look to what they deem as intellectual authority and thus never think for themselves.

Bush's peer group, the wealthiest three or four percent of the nation, doesn't have the numbers to put the policies that it wants in place. Most of these policies, e.g., open borders, free trade, lack of regulation in the workplace, only benefit this small group at the expense of everyone else.

The whole game is to use wedge issues to fool a large demographic into voting for these policies and against their own best interests.

What you do is get the truck drivers in Oklahoma all riled up about two queers getting married in San Francisco and then bring in a million Pakistanis to take their jobs. Also inflate away their pensions and send their kids off to die for Israel. In exchange for this, the GOP talks about gay marriage. But just talks about it. The GOP never really has to do anything about gay marriage, abortion or anything else relevant to these people. This is because the group that the GOP is manipulating depends on Fox News for their daily progress updates.

I really don't understand this bizarre self hatred. Most of these people probably had fathers or grandfathers who worked their way up because of unions and the only reason we have ANY BENEFITS AT ALL is BECAUSE of unions. That's it. Paid lunches, 40 hour working week, week-ends off, vacations, sick time, Medical, health, life insurance, checks on working conditions, child labor laws - ALL of these were brought about by those damn union agitators. The unions are one of the prime reasons we have a middle class at all.

And you're right - if we had never had unions, we would be very much like chinese coolies, working for a bowl of rice and an extra dog leg. I'd like to line up everyone who listens to Rush all across country and dope slap every last one of them back into reality.

You're absolutely right. The same with abortion. They rant about it, but they don't do anything. The only thing they ever end up doing is lining their own pockets and sending these morons' kids off to die.

We'll see on this one. I'd probably lose money in a bet with you on how this'll turn out, but I still would go out on a limb and predict that the Bush cabal has little or no "talking points" to "demagogue" the base into accepting this deal, because they've already given away those points to their opponents! What do they have? Opposing the deal is "racial profiling"? *Snicker!* We "need" a foreign Arab government to run our ports? Yeah, right, they'll buy that right after cheering Coulter when she says, "Raghead make trouble, raghead face consequences"! They have to be in favor of the deal because Hillary and Schumer are opposed? That's a point you use when you're sure you can depend on your subject's reflex reactions---not on this one. Bottom line: I think they're all in the shit on this one up to their necks, and I don't think they can just holler and expect the yahoos to come pull them out like in the past.

You can't win. You can't break even. You can't get out of the game.

Why do so many people who have never met Limbaugh refer to him by his first name?

(Personally, I'm not sure I understand why anyone would want to suggest any familiarity with the fellow, after he defended and made light of the torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.)

Plans?

These people have no plans other than to manifest their own power by persuasion and propaganda. They are the flip-side of the Democratic Party, a sham; a wasted vote for and about the basis of our nation. Both the Republicans and the Democrats are indistinguishable with the exception of their "official" political party slogans designed to deceive you that there is a choice between them.

And the more America listens to and votes for either of these two political party monsters; the more we lose our nation; the more we lose our individual rights, liberties and freedoms.

Absolutely. My congress critt Joel Hefley rants about how to eliminate the "marriage penalty tax" whenever he gets on the radio here...it is meaningless emotional twaddle.
