War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: Farcical Ceasefire in Aleppo Ends, Combating Terrorism Resumes Farcical Ceasefire in Aleppo Ends, Combating Terrorism Resumes by Stephen Lendman Like previous good faith Russian diplomatic conflict resolution efforts, its unilaterally declared humanitarian pause in combating terrorists infesting eastern Aleppo failed because Washington undermined it - wanting endless war to topple Assad and destroy sovereign Syrian independence. On October 22, the Russian language broadsheet Izvestia quoted parliamentary security and defense committee deputy chairman Frans Clint Savich, saying “(f)resh rounds of anti-terrorism operations will start as soon as the humanitarian ceasefire ends” Saturday evening. Syrian parliamentarian Jamal Rabe’eh said combating terrorists in Aleppo will resume, explaining Damascus and Moscow forthrightly tried ending bloodshed by diplomatic means. Washington and its rogue allies sabotaged their good faith efforts. A Syrian military source said fresh government forces were sent to Aleppo, more troops coming this week. According to Fars News, “Syrian government forces, (bolstered by) fresh soldiers, are engaged in an intense battle with (US-supported al-Nusra) terrorist(s) in (eastern Aleppo’s) Housing Project 1070.” Al-Nusra “(u)nits…have now pulled…back from their positions under the heavy fire of the Syrian army.” “The present conditions show that Housing Project 1070 will be completely captured soon. There have remained only a few building blocks under (al-Nusra) control.” “Now the terrorists are under siege, trapped in the circle of government soldiers. They have no way out.” They’ll either surrender or die. Overnight Saturday, Reuters said Syrian and/or Russian airstrikes on eastern Aleppo resumed after Moscow’s unilateral ceasefire ended. According to local sources, Russian warplanes resumed bombing, striking al-Nusra’s southern Aleppo countryside supply lines. Syria’s aerial campaign focused on northern Aleppo terrorist targets. Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said allowing Syria to be partitioned could have catastrophic regional consequences. Its “territory should be liberated,” he stressed. “And everything should be done to hinder the breakup of that country into any parts…” Russia’s mission is aiding Syria’s “legitimate authorities in fighting terrorism, in fighting ISIS and other terrorist organizations.” “We have two options: either Assad (or al-Nusra) in Damascus.” If it “falls and terrorists are there, then no political settlement” is possible - why defeating them is essential. On Friday, during a special UN Human Rights Council session, Russia’s UN envoy in Geneva, Alexey Borodavkin, minced no words saying: “While hysteria is being whipped up around Aleppo, the US-led coalition has been systematically destroying infrastructure in government-controlled areas, delivering crushing strikes to civilians and the Syrian Army, and now seems to intend (to shift) ISIS terrorists from the Iraqi city of Mosul into Syria.” “(C)ertain countries continue placing stakes on terrorists and extremists, rendering them political and propaganda assistance, supplying them with arms and ammunition” - leaving no doubt he means America, its NATO allies and rogue regional states.
