Thanks for these thoughts.

Having been around since FDR, I would say that Truman was the "least" owned by the establishment.

He was chosen by the "establishment" because he was a nobody that could be shoved aside when FDR died. The problem was FDR died too soon and Truman became his own man. When push came to shove, he made his own decisions, such as firing MacArthur, a cousin to FDR.
