War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: NYT Mocks Assad and Syrian Suffering NYT Mocks Assad and Syrian Suffering by Stephen Lendman Meeting with Western journalists on Monday, Assad was forthright, honest and candid, the way he always addresses issues affecting Syria and its people. If accusations claiming hes committing crimes of war and against humanity were true, as media scoundrels claim, he would have lost public support long ago, he explained. Hes overwhelmingly popular. Syrians want no one else leading them, what media scoundrels never report, substituting state-sponsored propaganda instead, some of the most deplorable reporting in memory. No one (is) talking about war crimes and atrocities committed by US-supported terrorists, he stressed. Disgraceful headlines scream (T)he bad president, the bad guy, is killing the good guys. Western reporting is upside down. Terrorists murdering civilian men, women and children are called freedom fighters. Assad was overwhelming reelected in June 2014 by an 89% majority - a process independent monitors called open, free and fair. He justifiably believes hes entitled to serve his full seven-year term. If youre the captain of the ship, when you have a storm, you dont jump in the water. You lead it to shore, he stressed. Syria threatens no other country. It didnt rape Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and its own provinces. America, NATO, their rogue allies, and terrorist foot soldiers bear full responsibility. Washington falsely says its fighting terrorists. Its supporting the scourge it claims its against, said Assad. The reason for Obamas war on Syria is about (Illegally) toppling the government, not humanitarian intervention or democracy building. The Times, like other media scoundrels, maintains the myth of civil war, disgracefully blaming Assad for US-led high crimes, using ISIS and other terrorists to do its killing and dying, including cutthroat killers called moderates. The self-styled newspaper of record said meeting with Assad was surreal. Its so used to proliferating state-sponsored propaganda, it doesnt recognize straight talk when it hears it. Hes secure in his palace because he has outsourced much of the war to Russian, Iranian and Hezbollah forces, it said. Fact: Syrias military is the lead force combating US-supported terrorists, aided by Russia, Iran and Hezbollah - freedom fighting against the scourge of Western imperialism, supported by regional rogue states. The Times: Syrian warplanes indiscriminately pounded insurgent-held residential areas daily for years; government forces that have imposed starvation sieges; and state detention facilities that hold thousands of people - including peaceful protesters, bloggers and other civilians arrested seemingly at random - who languish without trial, often under torture. Fact: The Times and other media scoundrels function as US administration and Pentagon press agents, publishing propaganda theyre told to report, suppressing hard truths exposing the state- sponsored narrative. Assad is right asking wheres the proof supporting allegations against him, his government and military? Its not forthcoming because it doesnt exist. At the same time, horrendous US war crimes are whitewashed. Syria wont surrender its sovereignty. It wont voluntarily become a puppet country, he stressed, while denying the existence of political prisoners. Anyone supporting ISIS and other terrorists support killers, he said, adding he granted amnesty to thousands of prisoners to pave the way for any solution in our society. Hes combating foreign sponsored terrorism, his obligation as Syrias leader. US-led intervention flagrantly violates international law. No nation has the right to rape another one for any reason. Might makes might is indefensible by any standard. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
