Individuals claiming a past life are likely a case of invasion by a deceased's soul; same with cases of possession.

Theology and reality could be two different things.
The underlying assumption of the author (and the scientists quoted) which I consider faulty is that our DNA defines all that there is about us, including the "soul", and that any soul we have must have been created as a result of human conception. That's not the case. There is no such thing as a "human soul". Souls take up temporary residence in a human body, but existed prior to and long after the life of the body. The idea that an immortal soul could spring into existence as a result of a biochemical event of conception is, as I see it, wholly illogical, but nonetheless the assumption made by theologians and others interested in the field.
