Dead Constitution See other Dead Constitution Articles Title: Scoundrel Media Electoral Postmortems Scoundrel Media Electoral Postmortems by Stephen Lendman A same day article called Trumps election crow-eating time for Americas media scoundrels. Their campaign coverage was deplorably one-sided for Hillary, elevating her to near sainthood, suppressing her high crimes, while relentlessly denigrating Trump - unprecedented misreporting since I began following presidential races with Truman besting Tom Dewey in 1948. New York Times editors headlined Donald Trumps Revolt, saying President Donald Trump. Three words that were unthinkable to tens of millions of Americans - and much of the rest of the world - have now become the future of the United States. His victory is a humbling blow to the news media, the pollsters and the Clinton-dominated Democratic leadership. Fact: Throughout the campaign, The Times was a virtual Hillary press agent, reflecting shameless advocacy for one candidate over the other substituting for what journalism is supposed to be. Despite daily Trump bashing, their pro-Hillary campaign failed. In the aftermath of his triumph, its editors continued going at him relentlessly, saying (w)e know Mr. Trump is the most unprepared president-elect in modern history. We know that by words and actions, he has shown himself to be temperamentally unfit to lead a diverse nation of 320 million people. We know he has threatened to prosecute and jail his political opponents, and he has said he would curtail the freedom of the press. We know he lies without compunction. He has said he intends to cut taxes for the wealthy and to withdraw the health care protection of the Affordable Care Act from tens of millions of Americans. He has insulted women and threatened Muslims and immigrants, and he has recruited as his allies a dark combination of racists, white supremacists and anti-Semites. Fact: Administrations run America, a team of appointees, advisors and deep state power brokers. Presidents represent their interests. Fact: Temperamentally unfit to lead? Fit enough to create a successful business enterprise, becoming a billionaire in the process. Fact: Hillary is legally, ethically, morally and emotionally unfit to serve in any public capacity, especially the nations highest office. Fact: She remains unaccountable for war crimes, racketeering and perjury. Just societies would demand accountability. Its unknown what Trump will do - other than appointing his own attorney general and FBI director. Whether theyll prosecute Bill and Hillary Clinton for high crimes remains to be seen. Fact: Obamacare was designed as a healthcare rationing scheme to enrich insurers, Big Pharma and large hospital chains. Trump doesnt support universal coverage - everyone in, no one left out, the only equitable system he rejects. Fact: His proposed tax cuts, largely benefitting corporate interests and Americas rich, wont stimulate economic growth. Stimulative fiscal policy is needed. Fact: Trumps racist comments are disgraceful, including wanting a wall built on Americas southern border with Mexico, its government paying for it. Hes no anti-Semite, overwhelmingly supporting Israel, doing business with Jewish interests in America, likely having many Jewish friends. Americas imperial agenda is extremist and ruthless. Trump has public record to judge him on. Its unknown how much slack hes been cut to fulfill some of the pledges he made. Overall, dirty business as usual will continue on his watch, likely less extremist than Hillary geopolitically - especially better relations with Russia hopefully, avoiding the threat of nuclear war. Washington Post editors were less hostile to Trump than their NYT counterparts - saying they hope (hell) be a better president than we fear, adding theyll support him when he does the right thing - a statement lacking clear elaboration. At the same time, they expressed no optimism that hell suddenly shape more rational responses to (major world and national) problems than he offered on the campaign trail, nor that he will discover a discipline or wisdom he has yet to display. Hes got a lot of proving to do. With Republican House and Senate majorities, hes in a position to get policies he supports implemented - for good or ill. Its best to withhold judgment until hes inaugurated and begins his tenure as president. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
