Trump Intending to Move US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem? by Stephen Lendman
Earlier while campaigning, Trump said, if elected, hed move Washingtons embassy in Israeli from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I am for that 100%, he stressed.
Its an international city under a UN Trusteeship Council, established in 1947 before Israel became a state. It remains so today.
On July 30, 1980, Israels Jerusalem Law lawlessly annexed the city as its unified capital - condemned on August 20 unanimously by Security Council Resolution 478, America abstaining.
Israeli control violates international law. UN member states were told to withdraw diplomatic missions from the city immediately. East Jerusalem was declared occupied territory.
Expropriated land is illegal. Israeli legislative and administrative measures altering the citys character and status are null and void - Israel ignoring orders to rescind them.
In 1995, Congress passed legislation, mandating the US embassys move to Jerusalem, allowing presidents a waiver. Each one kept Americas embassy in Tel Aviv, citing national security interests.
According to Trump foreign policy advisor Walid Phares, he may not move Washingtons embassy to Jerusalem, focusing instead on negotiating peace with Israel and Palestine.
After indicating hed withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal as president, Phares now says hes just considering some changes.
According to Palestines UN envoy Riyad Mansour, if Trump moves Americas embassy to Jerusalem, well make his life miserable
(N)obody should blame us for unleashing all of the weapons that we have in the UN to defend ourselves and we have a lot of weapons in the UN.
Campaign pledges one thing to get elected, fulfilling them another entirely. Expect a much different President Trump than his rough-and-tumble bombast on the stump.
