(s)Elections See other (s)Elections Articles Title: Chicagoan Viciously Beaten for Supporting Trump Chicagoan Viciously Beaten for Supporting Trump by Stephen Lendman The Chicago Tribune reported what most other major media sources ignored, the NYT giving the incident short shrift, publishing a short AP News account. David Wilcox, aged 49, was involved in minor traffic accident, his car “scraped” by another. “I stopped and parked. And I asked if they had insurance, and the next thing that I knew they were beating the s..t out of me,” he explained. Nearby phone video showed him being knocked to the ground, then savagely punched and kicked by five individuals. Onlookers shouted “(y)ou voted Trump…Beat his ass…Don’t vote Trump.” The Tribune said he “roll(ed) on his back and cover(ed) his face. Two people hit and kick(ed) him. Wilcox g(ot) up and trie(d) to get back in his car, but someone repeatedly punche(d) him until he slump(ed) by the side of the vehicle.” One of the offenders got into the driver’s seat of his car. He couldn’t get him out, then grabbed the door frame. “They were beating me to have me let go of the car,” he said, dragged as his car pulled away. “The guy went to 70 and 80 mph,” said Wilcox. “If I let go, I was dead. He slowed to 45…He tried to push the door open…So he stepped on it again. He stepped up back to 70 and 80, swerved again," Wilcox said. “The wheels on my side left the ground, up to 2 inches…Then he slowed down. I was looking at oncoming traffic. He probably slowed to about 45.” “God was watching over for me. I rolled about five or seven times into the oncoming traffic lanes. There was a parole officer with a gun and bulletproof vest. He turned left, and he told me just sit down and wait for the police to come.” As of late last week, no one is in custody for assault, car theft and whatever other charges are appropriate. Police said they’re investigating. Wilcox explained he voted for Trump, but no one attacking him or egging them on could have known. He supports Trump because “he’s gonna bring back the economy,” he said. “I believe he’s gonna be the one to protect the (nation). I know he doesn’t speak politically correct sometimes, but 95 percent of the country doesn’t.” US culture is violent at home and abroad - including endless imperial wars, repressive police state laws, inner cities turned into battlegrounds, killer cops lethally shooting mostly Black youths with impunity, and by far the highest homicide rate of all developed nations. As a longtime Chicagoan, I know where Wilcox’s beating took place on the southwest side. Called a city of neighborhoods, Chicago is known for ethnic and cultural diversity. I live in Streeterville in the city’s Near North Side, north of the Loop business district and Chicago River, near the Michigan Avenue Magnificent Mile and famous Water Tower. It’s well policed, an incident like Wilcox’s attack unlikely to occur. I never witnessed police or any other form of violence in nearly half a century. It’s a neighborhood where cops protect residents, act friendly and serve the way they should for everyone - unlike commonplace harshness in many other parts of the city. An earlier article discussed Gitmo in Chicago, west of my neighborhood - a nondescript warehouse serving as an off-the-books interrogation facility, operating like a CIA black site. People are lawlessly arrested, detained, denied access to lawyers up to 24 hours, and tortured during secret interrogations - most often innocent of any crime or at most something too minor to matter, Blacks overwhelmingly abused.
