Congress on Foreign Policy by Stephen Lendman Its unclear if Trump wants better foreign relations - more diplomacy, less war, or continuity, geopolitically staying the course. We dont know because campaign promises often vanish in the mist of realpolitik, incumbency much different from candidacy. If more non-confrontational than belligerent, hell face stiff congressional opposition, perhaps transforming him a warrior president like his predecessors, going along to get along. Well know more when top administration officials are announced and policies he favors are implemented in office. Transition team member Gov. Chris Christie, Rep. Mike Rogers and corporate lobbyist Matthew Freedman were dismissed. Trump tweeted (v)ery organized process taking place as I decide on Cabinet and many other positions. I am the only one who knows who the finalists are. Uber-hawk neocon Senator John McCain (R. AR) released a shot across the bow, a statement, saying (w)ith the US presidential transition underway, Vladimir Putin has said in recent days that he wants to improve relations with the United States. We should place as much faith in such statements as any other made by a former KGB agent who has plunged his country into tyranny, murdered his political opponents, invaded his neighbors, threatened Americas allies and attempted to undermine Americas elections. The Obama administrations last attempt at resetting relations with Russia culminated in Putins invasion of Ukraine and military intervention in the Middle East. At the very least, the price of another reset would be complicity in Putin and Assads butchery of the Syrian people. That is an unacceptable price for a great nation. When America has been at its greatest, it is when we have stood on the side (of) those fighting tyranny. That is where we must stand again. His disgraceful comments, willful Big Lies, followed Putin and Trump calling Russia/US relations unsatisfactory, saying theyll work together to improve them, and cooperate in Syria in combating terrorism. Every four to eight years, America undergoes a change of the guard. Since the Bill and Hillary Clinton co-presidency, its been deplorably downhill. Bush/Cheney exceeded their lawlessness. Obama surpassed the worst of his predecessor. Wherefore art thou, Donald? You saved us from likely frying pan horrors under Hillary. Hopefully, youll avoid the worst of the fire.
