Security Council Agreement on Completing Aleppos Evacuation? by Stephen Lendman Ahead of a Sunday Security Council meeting, Russian UN envoy Vitaly Churkin called a French draft resolution (complicit with Washington and Britain) on completing Aleppos evacuation a disaster, vowing a veto, saying: We dont have problems with any kind of monitoring. We will support appropriate UN monitoring process. But the idea that the observers would walk amid eastern Aleppo ruins without sufficient training and without giving an account of what will be going on there is a tragedy and a provocation. Russia submitted its own proposals, Churkin saying if accepted the resolution will pass - later adding, (w)e did some good hours of work and I think we have a good text. We agreed to vote tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM EST. When asked by reporters if international monitors will be sent to Aleppo, he responded everything is going to be great. The document mandates establishing voluntary and safe evacuation conditions in accordance with international law - supervised by UN, ICRC, Syrian Arab Red Crescent, and perhaps other humanitarian group monitors. Ahead of Mondays vote, its uncertain whether Washington, Britain and France may try changing the resolution text unacceptably ahead of the vote, or if passage will proceed smoothly. US-led NATO along with rogue regional partners have no concern for the welfare of beleaguered Syrians. Theyve been massacring and displacing them throughout years of naked aggression against a sovereign independent state, using ISIS and other terrorist foot soldiers. Their aim to replace Assad with a pro-Western puppet remains unchanged. Nothing they do is trustworthy, honorable or in compliance with international law. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
