NYT Frantic Over Trilateral Russia, Iran, Turkey Alliance on Syria, Excluding US

by Stephen Lendman

Russia and Iran support cessation of hostilities and conflict resolution after nearly six years of US naked aggression on Syria - using ISIS and other terrorists as imperial foot soldiers.

After supporting these groups throughout years of conflict, arming, funding, training and giving them safe haven protection within its borders, it’s unclear what Turkey wants, other than annexing northern Syrian territory, continuing its war on Kurds and wanting Assad’s legitimate government replaced.

Or has its agenda changed in part? It’s unclear. Its actions on the ground so far suggest otherwise. The fullness of time will tell what it plans ahead. Anything positive would be welcome.

Not for The New York Times, frantic over a Russia, Iran, Turkey trilateral alliance on Syria, possibly undermining Washington’s Middle East imperial agenda.

John Kerry was excluded from their Tuesday Moscow meeting. So was pro-Western UN Syrian envoy Staffan de Mistura. With Syrian forces scoring important anti-terrorist victories, excluding Washington and other Western nations from current talks “all but guarantee(s) that…Assad will continue to rule Syria under any resulting agreement,” The Times lamented.

Obama’s war on Syria to oust him looks doomed, his regional imperial agenda failing near the end of his deplorable agenda. The Times calls his naked aggression “a popular uprising that evolved into a civil war.” The Big Lie persists.

In a same day editorial, The Times bemoaned the Russian, Iranian, Turkish alliance while blaming Assad, Russia, Iran and Hezbollah for high crimes committed by America and its imperial partners.

It’s frantic over Putin and Erdogan possibly allying against US interests, saying “(a)s difficult as (Turkey’s president) may be, losing (his country) as (a US) ally would be another unacceptable casualty of the Syrian war.”

What the region and world need now, Times editors call “unacceptable.”

Turkey was never really an ally of the United States but it does not surprise me the least to know that the State Department of the US has never realized this at all. If the State Department is blind to who their true allies are, they should never expect an armistice or a cease-fire to exist with terrorists (or shall we refer them semantically as 'insurgents') nations. This holds true when those terrorists nations will not include the U.S. with those talks.
