Calling Israeli Settlements Illegal by Stephen Lendman The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post called Obama’s veto “a dangerous parting shot.” It lied saying failure to block it is “an obstacle to Middle East peace…more likely to impede than advance negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians,” adding: “It will encourage Palestinians to pursue more international sanctions against Israel rather than seriously consider the concessions necessary for statehood, and it will give a boost to the international boycott and divestment movement against the Jewish state, which has become a rallying cause for anti-Zionists.” True enough, it won’t stop unlimited settlement construction, especially with Trump succeeding Obama. He disgracefully supports what’s flagrantly illegal. Since its July 2005 founding, the Global BDS movement gained supporters and influence worldwide. Friday’s SC vote at most gave it more legitimacy, not power to change Israeli practices. Under international law, all its settlements are illegal, constructed on stolen Palestinian land - Fourth Geneva violated by transferring Israeli Jews to historic Palestinian territory, a flagrant breach with no legal, moral or ethical standing. WaPo: “(S)ettlements do not explain the administration’s repeated failures to broker an Israeli- Palestinian peace.” “…Abbas proved unwilling to negotiate seriously even during the settlement freeze, and it refused to accept a framework for negotiations painstakingly drawn up by Secretary of State John F. Kerry in 2014.” Fact: So-called peace talks represent the greatest hoax in modern times, dead on arrival each time announced. Decades of talks accomplished nothing. Fact: Peace and stability defeat Israel’s agenda. Violence and endless conflict serve it. Abbas is a longtime Israeli collaborator, betraying his people instead of serving them. Fact: Kerry’s proposal one-sidedly favored Israel, Palestinians offered sticks, not carrots. They rejected it, calling it intended to maintain occupation harshness. Fact: Kerry is no honest broker, exclusively representing Washington’s imperial interests at the expense of world peace, equity and justice. WaPo: “Whatever (his) motivation…Obama’s (veto) is likely to do more harm than good.” A same-day article said it handed Netanyahu and Trump a black eye, but little else.
