Trump’s Anti-Muslim Executive Order by Stephen Lendman His executive order titled “Protecting the Nation From Terrorist Attacks From Foreign Nationals” suspends immigration from targeted Muslim countries. It reflects racist discrimination, not protecting the country from Islamic extremists. It’s about fear- mongering, equating Muslims with terrorism, hyping nonexistent threats to justify America’s imperial agenda and contempt for people in need. Chances of being struck by lightning are greater than becoming a terrorist attack victim in America. Death by auto accident, preventable diseases, domestic violence, alcoholism and use of harmful drugs is infinitely higher. The only terrorist threat Americans face is state-sponsored - at the federal, state and local levels. Death or injury from ISIS or other terrorists domestically is virtually nil. Yet most people are manipulated to believe otherwise. They’re easy marks to be fooled no matter how many previous times they were duped. Trump’s executive order has nothing to do with protecting national security, nothing about screening out “radical Islamic terrorists” - everything to do with hyping fear, justifying endless wars, and keeping unwanted Muslims out of America. His great wall proposal targets Latinos the same way. Christians and Jews are welcome, including from predominantly Muslim countries. Treating them one way and Muslims another is flagrantly racist. Refugees aren’t wanted, banned for 4 months until extreme vetting procedures are instituted, then cut to 50,000 through October 2017, less than half the low number Obama permitted. Admittance based on religious persecution will be prioritized over others fleeing war zones, political repression and for other legitimate reasons. Restricting or banning immigration from Syria and other Muslim countries, as well as from Mexico and Central America, is immoral and shameful. According to the Migration Policy Institute, in the 14-year period post-9/11 through 2015, only three refugees were convicted on (likely contrived) terror-related charges. America is a nation of immigrants, newcomers decent people like earlier arrivals in most respects. Allowing them into the country poses no credible terrorist threat. Claiming it unfairly equates Islam with terrorism. Trump’s executive order temporarily bans Muslim immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, mostly US war theaters, Washington fully responsible for creating the severest refugee crisis since WW II - yet unwilling to help defenseless civilians it’s harmed so much. Trump saying he wants to help Christians because they’re getting their heads chopped off ignores how many more Muslims continue being harmed by America’s rage for war. “(E)xtreme vetting” is his way to screen out unwanted immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers - Muslims - while giving Christians and Jews preferential treatment, except from Latin America. According to the American Immigration Lawyers Association director of advocacy Greg Chen, banning “refugees will severely cripple the US refugee program, leaving thousands who face life- threatening danger without humanitarian protection.” “This policy does not make us safer. It shows weakness and withdraws our nation from the position as global leader when so many refugees urgently need protection.” Trump saying “(w)e don’t want them here” shamefully shows contempt for some of the world’s most grievously harmed people, victims of US imperial ruthlessness, turned away by the nation ravaging them most.
