Its all about its sovereign independence, deference to Israel, and all that oil America covets. Its reserves are the worlds fourth largest. During his interview with Fox News host Bill OReilly, aired Sunday, Trump repeated longstanding US/Israeli disinformation on Iran, disgracefully saying (t)hey have total disregard for our country. They are the number one terrorist state. Theyre sending money all over the place and weapons, and you cant do that. He called the international nuclear agreement the worst deal Ive ever seen negotiated, adding its government disrespect(ed) America in its dealings. Asked if he intends backing out of the deal, he said (w)ell see what happens. So far he appears to be goading Iran to breach its terms to give him a pretext to pull out. He says he wants the deal changed, a nonstarter with Tehran, likely also unacceptable to the other P-5 countries plus Germany. He irresponsibly called Iran emboldened. False! They follow our planes. False! They circle our ships with their little boats
False! They lost respect because they cant believe anybody could be so stupid as to make a deal like that. Irans nuclear program never had a military component. Claiming it poses a nuclear threat is red herring cover for long sought regime change by Washington and Israel - wanting its challenge to their regional hegemony eliminated. In mid-January, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said (t)here are no unsolvable and insurmountable problems in the implementation of the JCPOA nuclear deal. (W)e believe that there are no prerequisites for any failures and disruptions, and the entire P5+1 group and the Iranian representatives will work further in this field. Commenting on Trumps criticism, he said little is known on the approaches he intends and his foreign policy agenda in general. Moscow is evaluating comments made by his officials during their confirmations hearings and more recent ones. Of course, some statements especially on the prospects of the JCPOA drew our attention, but in any case I see no signs here that we are approaching any milestone or that a completely new situation will occur, Ryabkov explained. Not at all, and we will stick to our well-known line in the dialogue with the new US administration and in contacts with other participants of the P5+1 group. Ryabkov called the nuclear deal an important, constructive agreement, having a positive impact on the regional situation. Moscows assessment remains unchanged, and we will stick with it. Iran sacrificed plenty to get the US-led international community irresponsibly off its back. Trumps hostility to a deal taking many months to complete, along with disturbing saber rattling toward Iran risks possible unthinkable belligerent confrontation. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
