ICE raids have blown up in Alabama since Trump immigration orders went into effect A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent prepares for a raid. Across the nation, ICE is widening its net of potential immigration enforcement targets.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are conducting raids and detaining undocumented immigrants in Alabama at higher rates than elsewhere in the Deep South, according to an attorney who specializes in defending immigrants detained in southern states.
ICE agents are detaining undocumented immigrants without criminal records across Alabama in a break with agency practice under President Barack Obama.
ICE is also making so-called collateral arrests, in which they check the papers of people they encounter during raids targeting other individuals and detain any who are undocumented. And they are arresting people at their homes and workplaces, according to Alabama immigration advocates and Baton Rouge, La., defense attorney Paul Woody Scott.

Vargas father and 26-year-old brother both undocumented immigrants from Argentina were eventually detained, but she was released after being briefly handcuffed by officers.
On Wednesday, ICE agents finally caught up with Daniela after she came out of hiding to speak at a press conference against the ramped up immigration raids order by President Donald Trump.
The Clarion-Ledger reported that the Vargas had just spoken Wednesday at an immigration press conference in front of Jackson City Hall and was returning home when ICE agents pulled her car over on the freeway.
You know who we are, you know what were here for, agents told Vargas, the Clarion-Ledger reported
