NYT Healthcare Legislation Hypocrisy

by Stephen Lendman

The Times was a leading Obamacare advocate, praising what warrants condemnation - in an editorial titled “Health Care Reform, at Last,” saying:

“The process was wrenching…Barack Obama put his presidency on the line for an accomplishment of historic proportions…a triumph for countless Americans who have been victimized or neglected by their dysfunctional health care system.”

Times editors absurdly called deplorable Obamacare “another stone firmly laid in the foundation of the American Dream…reforms (that) could ultimately rival Social Security and Medicare in historic importance.”

It’s a healthcare rationing scheme, designed to enrich insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains - instead of vitally needed equitable universal coverage reform, free from industry predators, ripping off consumers for profit.

Times editors consistently praised Obama’s deplorable agenda. In contrast, they relentless bash Trump.

His American Health Care Act and Obama’s Affordable Care Act are abominations. Not how Times editors see it - praising one, bashing the other, saying:

“More than 20 million Americans gained health care coverage under the ACA, or Obamacare. Health experts say most would lose that coverage under (Trump’s) proposal.”

Obamacare left around 30 million Americans uninsured, millions more way underinsured, mostly the nation’s poor and low-income individuals. Times editors didn’t explain.

Trumpcare makes a bad system worse, benefitting industry giants and high-income Americans at the expense of most others.

In bashing a deplorable plan, Times editors ignored Obamacare’s flaws. Instead of supporting vitally needed universal coverage, it promotes marketplace medicine, putting profits over people needs.

Times editors: Republicans have been vowing to repeal the Affordable Care Act even before it became law in 2010. But they still haven’t come up with a workable replacement.”

“Instead, the GOP’s various factions are now haggling over just how many millions of Americans they are willing to harm.”

Times editors are uncaring about 30 million Americans left uninsured under Obamacare and millions more way underinsured.

Instead of urging universal coverage, the only equitable system, they ignore it.
