Title: Anyone remember Ruby Ridge and Randy Weaver?

This is a pretty balanced 1 hour PBS documentary about the events that led up to the cluster-bleep at Ruby Ridge Idaho, what happened once some Fed panicked and shot teenage Sammy Weaver's dog that was barking at him,and the final result.

Pretty well balanced and has interviews with all of the main players except for Lon Horiuchi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Horiuchi), a piece of semi-human garbage that I sincerely hope someone tracked down and gave him what he so richly deserved. Since he is not mentioned,I am assuming that he is unfortunately still alive and still in hiding.

AFAIK,the feral government has never identified the US Marshall that shot 14 year old Sammy Weaver in the back and killed him, either. I'm sure his name was mentioned in the wrongful death lawsuit the Weaver Family flied and won against the US Government, but it has never been made public.

The only other scab I have to pick with the producers is they mention "senior FBI officials gave the order to the snipers that they MUST fire if they saw a target." They should have named names. No,this doesn't justify Horiuchi murdering an innocent woman standing in a doorway and holding a baby in her arms, but the Feebs that gave the order deserve the same justice as the shooter. Horiuchi,as a proud cog in the machine that was the FBI would have never dared fire on a unarmed woman holding a baby without those orders.

For those of you too young to remember this,or who happened to be living on another planet when it happened, this was THE event that let the feral government come to an actual understanding that they had been pushing too far,and because of what they did at Ruby Ridge, they came DAMN close to kicking off another American revolution. The Feral agents shown live at the roadblocks, and even the Feeb officials interviewed on tv were terrified, and you could see it in their eyes.

This was after the Janet Reno-ordered attack on the Church full of loons at Waco,Texas, and even people who were not a part of what is called the "gun culture" or right-wing politics were getting disturbed at the violent criminal actions of our out of control government. Ruby Ridge came damn close to being One Step Too Far,and the government knew it and backed off.

All in all it is pretty balanced reporting, and is bound to be a real eye-opener for anyone who wasn't alive at that time.

It was aired this week on my local PBS station, and is most likely available in the archives of your PBS station,or can be viewed at the link.

A hour well-spent. Especially for those of you who don't remember it.

False: RR happened approximately one year before the massacre near Waco.

Feds learned their lesson at RR when they left survivors, so they burned/killed all the Davidians possible. Look it up.

I watched the congressional hearings on CSPAN. Sonny Bono was freaking out. At one point they had a voice masked undercover agent testify from behind a screen how they tried to get Weaver(an ex-special forces vet) to turn agent. He described a meeting attended by four different men to discuss how to get illegal weapons. The meeting was supposed to be wanna-be criminals but every man was an undercover agent from a different federal agency who thought he was interacting with 3 criminals. How the US has not changed!

They had no choice at Ruby Ridge. There were a lot of SERIOUSLY pissed-off and armed right-wingers there, and they would have torn the feds apart if they had tried to go in shooting.

I think Ruby Ridge wasn't really about fighting so called separatists but to get Randy and family off their land. Did he get to keep his land or did he lose it in a fight to defend himself in court? What became of that area? I have noticed with all of these various standoffs and what not that there seems to be other motives at work.

What value did Randy Weaver really have as an informant? He was a known quantity and soon he would have been outed with very little effort. So I don't see the need or the reason to turn him as it were. In my honest opinion much like the Bundy's and others, I think there might have been value to his land he might not have known about.

I don't know Randy or anything about his situation but if he is still living there, it would surprise me. It would surprise me more of the land wasn't acquired somehow by someone who wanted it for themselves.

I think Ruby Ridge wasn't really about fighting so called separatists but to get Randy and family off their land. Did he get to keep his land or did he lose it in a fight to defend himself in court? What became of that area? I have noticed with all of these various standoffs and what not that there seems to be other motives at work.

His land was worthless, and he ended up with a dead son, dead wife, traumatized living children, and a little over 3 million paid out to him after he went to trial and was found Not Guilty.

What value did Randy Weaver really have as an informant?

The feds thought he was the best shot they had at getting info on radical white power groups,so THEY thought he had great value.

He was a known quantity and soon he would have been outed with very little effort.

"Outed" how,and for what? He wasn't a nazi, white power freak,or any other sort of revolutionary. He,or probably more accurately, his wife, was a devout "end timer" fundie Christian, and they just wanted to live in peace until the world ended. Mixed amongst the White Power crowd were a lot of fundie Christians the Weavers did have something in common with, and like everyone else they sometimes enjoyed socializing with people with common beliefs, and letting their children be children by playing with other children. At BEST Weaver and his family were on the fringe of that crowd, but by being an actual family with children they were trusted.

The fact that Weaver turned down the feral goobermint's deal to turn informer and have the felony charges dropped proved he COULD be trusted. Lots of people talk lots of crap, but when push comes to shove and it is THEM caught in the crosshairs of the federal court system, opinions on what they will do and what they won't do rapidly change.

So I don't see the need or the reason to turn him as it were.

Turn him in? WTF are you talking about? Nobody turned him in for anything. The ATF set a trap for him. THEY are the ones that originated the "federal offense" and then they charged HIM with violating the law. Pure entrapment.

, I think there might have been value to his land he might not have known about.

You are free to think anything you like, and I am sure his land must have been worth dozens of dollars.

I don't know Randy or anything about his situation but if he is still living there, it would surprise me. It would surprise me more of the land wasn't acquired somehow by someone who wanted it for themselves.

You are on the wrong track. I have no idea where he lives now,but I would be shocked to discover he was still living in a house and on a spot of land where his entire life turned to shit. It would be like rubbing salt into a wound every day.

It was the beginning of the militia bogey man era to set up OKC and Domestic Terrorism Police State in the USSA.

It was all about demonizing white people as gun-toting Nazi's so they could pass gun control laws.

It pretty much backfired on them, and gun sales hit new records.

terms of the settlement

The terms of the settlement provide $100,000 to Mr. Weaver and $1 million to each of his three daughters, Rachel Marie, Elisheba Ann and Sara Lyn. Mr. Weaver's lawyer, Gerry Spence, said his client was now living on Social Security payments.
