Wisconsin Judge Rules Against Trump’s Travel Ban

by Stephen Lendman

On Friday, federal District Court Judge William Conley issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) for the wife and child of a Syrian refugee, living in America since 2014.

His ruling applies only to them, but opens the door to similar ones, potentially nationwide, along with other efforts to get Trump’s travel ban judicially overturned, one state at a time.

Names of the individuals involved in the Wisconsin case are unreported to protect their identities for obvious reasons - given disturbing Islamophobia in America.

The plaintiff is a Sunni Syrian Muslim, given refugee status in America over two years ago. He got asylum status for his wife and child, their travel here blocked by Trump’s original January 27 ban.

In his ruling, Conley said “(t)he court appreciates that there may be important differences between the original executive order, and the revised executive order.”

“As the order applies to the plaintiff here, however, the court finds his claims have at least some chance of prevailing for the reasons articulated by other courts."

The plaintiff “presented some likelihood of success on the merits” of his claim about his wife and child likely facing “significant risk of irreparable harm” if unable to leave Syria.

Last Thursday, Washington, Oregon and New York followed Hawaii, saying they’re suing to overturn Trump’s travel ban.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said “the intent to discriminate against Muslims remains clear.” The ban illegally “violates the Equal Protection Clause and Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution,” he stressed.

Washington state intends challenging it judicially, Governor Jay Inslee, calling Trump’s revised ban “mean-spirited,” warranting continued resistance. AG Bob Ferguson asked federal District Court Judge James Robart to extend his earlier TRO.

Other states intending their own suits include Maryland, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

Others filing briefs of support include California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia, perhaps more to follow.

A battle royal is underway to reverse Trump’s travel ban. Round one succeeded. Round two just began.

If again succeeds, will Trump risk a third defeat? His hardline domestic and geopolitical agenda so far should scare everyone.

The problem in America is both wings of duopoly governance support policies serving privileged interests at the expense of most others.

If not Trump, they’d be someone else doing enormous harm to so many at home and abroad - a deplorable situation elections can’t fix.

When I worked for State of Illinois, I was plowing a major intersection on NW side at Mannheim and Higgins. It was three lanes in each direction on Higgins. There must have been a foot of wet, slushy snow in the right lane. There were two Mexicans standing on the curb by the EB right turn lane east of Mannheim. When I hit that slushy snow with the plow, it came off there like a tidal wave. The two Mexicans turned tail and ran. The wave of snow went across the shoulder and up on a few cars in the used car lot on that corner. It was funny as hell. ROTFLMAO!

All states with Dim governors.

This is nothing less than the Dim Party trying to overthrow the election they lost.

Being the commies they are that love the idea of living in a country where everyone has to lick the master's boots,Trump should shut down federal grant money to each and every one of them so they can enjoy living what they preach.

federal grant money

That is on the chopping block. And so is a lot of other payments to entities that are on the fringe. ;)

When I work for Illinois state highways they always had to watch the budget for the yard when it was getting near the end of fiscal year. When the budget ran short they would put us out with cold patch filling every little crack we could find. Of course a lot of that would come loose and end up in the catch basins for the storm sewers. That just made more work for the vactor to clean them out. ;)
