She a convicted felon, imprisoned for embezzlement, money laundering, hiding ill-gotten wealth abroad, and abuse of public office. Obama administration-installed putschists illegally freed her. At one time, she had nearly 300 secret foreign bank accounts. Some remain active. Shes militantly anti-Russia. She has presidential aspirations, twice visiting Washington in hopes of furthering them. In late January, she met Trump and Pence on the sidelines of a National Prayer Breakfast - unusual for a US president to meet with an opposition figure ahead of the leader of an allied country, an apparent snub. Trump reportedly assured her sanctions on Russia would remain in place. She was in Washington for five days, meeting with other officials. Trump may have wanted her vetted as a potential replacement for Poroshenko. He likely fell out of favor in Washington, including for supporting Hillarys campaign. Ukraine is politically and economically bankrupt on his watch, dependent on foreign aid to function, much of it stolen, endless losing war continuing on Donbass. Days earlier, Timoshenko went to Washington for consultations with political strategists. Its too soon to know if the Trump administration intends installing her as Ukrainian president, replacing Poroshenko. No one so far was put in charge of Ukrainian policy. Secretary of State Tillerson is still transitioning from Big Oil to diplomacy. Ukraine is likely low among Trumps priority issues, focusing mainly on domestic ones - other than continuing imperial wars in multiple theaters, escalating conflict in Syria, saber-rattling against North Korea and Iran, and abandoning cooperation with Russia in combating terrorism.
