Shocking video shows the moment fire crews blasted a father-of-six out of his van with a water hose after he was pulled over for a broken tail light - before police shot him dead.

The suspect, identified by his sister as Michael Anthony Perez, had been pulled over in Anaheim, California, on Saturday evening when police say he refused to get out of his minivan.

Officers say they became concerned when the 33-year-old pulled out a lighter and gas container.

'We felt this guy was going to light himself on fire or blow the car up,' Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez said.

I must have missed that in the article. I'll look again. OK, but this stop was for a broken tail light and not that he was threatening cops.A witness even shouted "why are you shooting" ...

'What the f**k are you shooting for? What are you shooting for?' one man asked repeatedly.

How does a broken taillight traffic stop generate a fire truck and more than two cops on the scene? Something's missing in this story.

What is a less than lethal round? a BB gun, or what?

It seems to me that the cops have become very quick to shoot in unnecessary circumstances.

Cops have a duty to stop you for any violations,even minor ones. That's what they are hired and paid to do.

Once they stop you,they have a right to demand you get out of your vehicle if they think you may be impaired in some way that makes it unsafe for you to drive,or if the cop thinks it is safer for him to have you out in the open so he or she can see your hands and immediate surroundings to make sure you aren't holding any weapons.

The flip side of that is you do NOT want to get out of the car without being told because the cop will almost always see that as a potentially aggressive move.

Use some common sense,folks. Think for a minute about how you would want a driver to react to being stopped if you were a cop on your own making a road stop on someone you don't know,and act that way.

I was stopped yesterday for speeding. Even though I know the deputy and he knows me,I STILL sat still inside my truck,rolling my window down before he approached me,and sat there with both hands on top of the steering wheel in plain sight with my shoulder harness still attached and looking straight ahead. I didn't even unhook the shoulder harness or reach for my wallet to have my driver's license out until he asked to see it. And this was with a cop that I know and who knows me and where I live.

Traffic stops are potentially dangerous as hell,so it is in YOUR best interests to do nothing that will cause the cops adrenaline level to spike,and everything you can do to put him or her at ease as they approach you. Even though this cop knew me,I had just bought a new truck that had out of state dealer's plates on it,so I wanted no misunderstandings.

Believe it or not I have had cops let me off with just a warning multiple times for stuff like minor speeding,taillight out,and similar offenses because of how I reacted to the stop. Didn't work this time,but I don't have anything to bitch about because I WAS speeding and he was doing the job he was hired to do.

Some you win and some you lose,but one thing you can count on is that if YOU get aggressive with a cop that has not been aggressive with you,things are NOT going to work out well for you. MOST cops are like most other people. If you are pleasant and non-threatening to them,they will be pleasant and non-threatening to you. However,if you start anything physical or even verbal it is YOU that is going to lose because you are by yourself,and he has the entire judicial system backing him or her,so why make it harder for yourself when you don't have to?

There is ALWAYS something missing in every media story. IMO,they do this purposely to get people wondering about what happened so they will buy tomorrow's paper or tune in tomorrow to see what else is reported.

And what is missing is always dependent on that reporter's personal biases,and the biases of the people he or she works for.

What is a less than lethal round? a BB gun, or what?

Probably a beanbag round from a shotgun,or even the spike from a stun gun,and the reporter reported it that way because they know nothing about weapons.

According to the article, a couple cops were talking to him while a couple others were sneaking up the other side of the car and busted the window out.

And they say when dealing when dealing with cops, we should never do anything ot put them in fear for their lives. Watching the video, how could anyone not expect the guy to be shocked at the destruction of his car the unloading of the firehose and respond by acting defensively and pulling out knives? And then when he did, they shot him. Cops have shot and killed innocent people for far more mundane actions than an attacking with batons, busting up a car and unloading with a firehose. That's insane.

Okay so he had a prior record. But were there any outstanding warrants? Was he an escapee?

The story isn't copmlete. I'll grant that. But it sure seems a case of cops escalating a situation and then using deadly force when they failed to obtain the control they wanted to obtain by escalating the situation.

I'm not convinced this wasn't a Leftist fake-news production of some sort [maybe even Obama directed; 4um Refs. here and here] to torpedo Trump's campaign-aspirations for a Law and Order Presidency, then lure Hispanics who voted Republican over to the Democrat Party by a villifying in-fight about Lt. Lopez, the "Orange police" and Latinos for Trump. Leftists even refer to Trump as "Orange Man", supposedly because of his skin-tone. Perez and Lopez are not uncommon names among Hispanics but both of those names are prominently associative with the DNC/Democratic National Committee:

That's right! I say we eliminate them all-together! Who cares if somebody is drunk or drugged and driving 75 mph in a school zone at 3 PM?

I did say "some" traffic stops, and the vast majority of them do not involve the worst case scenario you describe. In this article, a broken tail light ended up with a guy dead.

Maybe the public good would have been better served if whatever cop stopped this guy just took a pass.

Last time I dealt with police was about three years ago. A Mexican female had become impatint with my habit of stopping for children and decided tailgaiting me was the only logical recourse. Once the next light turned green I lit up the tires and did a bootlegger turn across an intersection of two city streets. The cop saw every bit of it, asked if I was testing the tires.

Funny!

I saw a youtube some time back about a cop who has zero complaints filed against him in spite of many years on the force in which the norm was at least dozens by that time. A TV crew got wind of it and followed him around one day. They interviewed people after he gave them tickets and asked them if they were mad, and they never were. They were like laughing instead. That cop had a way with people.

The cop that stopped me yesterday and gave me a ticket was by pure coincidence also black,and also had the same style and personality.

He actually said "I don't want you to get mad at me for giving you this ticket". I was so stunned at hearing that,that I told him I had no one to be mad at but me because I was the one that had screwed up,and asked why I would get mad at him for doing the job he was hired to do.

Truth to tell,I think most people that get mad when stopped and given a ticket are actually mad at themselves instead of the cop. It just seems like they are mad at the one giving them the ticket.

I think there is a possibility that both of us were surprised by the time we drove away.
