Syria Peace Talks Failing Like Earlier

by Stephen Lendman

Three earlier rounds of talks in Geneva failed. Current ones in Astana, Kazakhstan and Geneva achieved no breakthroughs so far - none expected because Washington wants endless war, not resolution.

Syria’s delegation head to ongoing talks Bashar al-Jaafari expressed frustration over how things are going.

In a Friday press conference from Geneva, he said his government submitted “several papers” to pro-Western UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura.

One was on “fighting terrorism” and “general principles” for achieving political resolution to ongoing conflict.

Papers prepared were given to Mistura to deliver to opposition delegates.

Al Jaafari: “Regrettably…we haven’t received the response of the other sides or platforms to any paper of our papers.”

“This is no longer surprising because they don’t want to fight terrorism and they don’t want a political solution unless this political solution is tailored to their delusions which the years and facts proved that they never have and never will be realized.”

“They foamed and frothed…ceaselessly making silly and tiresome statements showcasing their deviant opinions and twisted logic…proving that they are agents of external forces and traitors to their homeland Syria…”

“(S)ince they are tools and mercenaries in the hand(s) of their operators and masters, it seems that they haven’t received orders yet, except orders to support terrorism, cause ruckus and disturbance, and disrupt the entire round in clear reflection of the faces of their operators who support terrorism and who want to derail the Astana and Geneva tracks.”

Despite Syrian, Russian and Iranian good faith efforts for conflict resolution, foreign interference from Washington, other NATO states, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Qatar want endless mass slaughter and destruction continued, rejecting peace, wanting conquest and control.

Jaafari stressed Syria’s future is for its people alone to decide, not foreign powers in Washington or elsewhere.

Endless conflict suggests resolving things diplomatically remains unattainable so far - unlikely if Washington wants war, not peace.
