Trump’s Deplorable Agenda Belies His Easter/Passover Message by Stephen Lendman
Trump’s weekly Saturday address to the nation rang profoundly hollow - an Easter/Passover message of faith, hope, “the blessings of this land” and peace.
His deplorable first three months in office belie the spirit he conveyed - escalating US wars of aggression, risking nuclear war on the Korean peninsula, serving Wall Street, war-profiteers, other corporate favorites and privileged Americans at the expense of most others.
Trump: “This is a season of great hope.”
Fact: US Main Street Depression conditions persist because nothing is done to correct things.
Fact: Millions of casualties attest to America’s imperial ruthlessness.
Fact: Police state injustice is the law of the land with bipartisan support.
Trump: “(T)he State of Israel stands as a monument to (the) faith and endurance (of) the Jewish People.”
Fact: Israel is a ruthless apartheid state, responsible for decades of Palestinian suffering.
Fact: The US/Israeli axis is the greatest threat to world peace.
Trump: Easter “is a sacred time that fills the spirit of our Nation with the faith of our people.”
Fact: On Easter and every other day, America wages endless wars on humanity at home and abroad. Its bloodthirstiness corrupts the spirit of the season.
Trump: “America is a Nation of believers…(W)e are grateful for the tremendous blessings of this land…a beautiful country, an abundant countryside…an amazing people with a truly bright and wonderful future.”
Fact: Poverty is a growth industry. Nearly one-fourth of working-age Americans are unemployed, most others way underemployed.
Fact: The “tremendous blessings of this land” are enjoyed by its privileged few alone. Most others endure hardships. No “bright and wonderful future” awaits them, just growing misery.
Trump: “(M)any around the globe do not enjoy” freedoms Americans have.
Fact: They’ve been eroding for decades, heading toward disappearing altogether.
Trump: “(L)ife always triumphs over death, freedom overcomes oppression, and faith extinguishes fear.”
Fact: In today’s America, “war is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength” - with attribution to Orwell.
Trump: “(T)his White House is fighting for…every American who has been left behind. We are fighting for the right of all citizens to enjoy safety and peace - and to work and live (in) dignity…”
Fact: Trump-led neocons infesting Washington spurn peace, equity and justify at all times domestically and abroad.
Trump failed to explain America seeks global dominance through endless wars of aggression, serving privileged interests alone, harshly treating nonbelievers.
Humanity’s fate is up for grabs on his watch.
