LEGAL-COURTS So ... the religious liberty EO was purposely 'vague'?

In the wake of a presidential executive order restoring religious freedom, a constitutional attorney is making the case that the states, Congress, and federal agencies are keys to carrying it out.

The executive order – signed by President Donald Trump on Thursday – directs the federal government to undo the damage to religious freedom done during eight years under the Obama administration. Section 1 of the order states:

"Federal law protects the freedom of Americans and their organizations to exercise religion and participate fully in civic life without undue interference by the Federal Government.  The executive branch will honor and enforce those protections."

Many have criticized the order as vague as to what the federal government actually will do. But Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel says to restore religious freedom, a lot of the work needs to be done by the states.

Subsequent sections of the executive order (Sections 3 and 4) address the damage done by ObamaCare to religious freedom, calling out actions needed by the secretaries of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Treasury, as well as the attorney general, who heads up the Department of Justice.

Along those lines, columnist Todd Starnes points out: "... President Trump has directed the Department of Justice to come up with guidelines that will protect people of faith and 'ensure these religious protections are afforded to all Americans.' That means Attorney General Jeff Sessions will be writing guidelines for every federal agency to ensure that our rights are protected."

Just rescind the Johnson amendment.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken
