Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a wonderful new bill into law that effectively bans sanctuary cities. This law also grants officers the ability to ask the immigration status of those they detain.
Governor Abbott commented prior to signing the law:
Citizens expect law enforcement officers to enforce the law, and citizens deserve lawbreakers to face legal consequences . . . Texans expect us to keep them safe, and that is exactly what we are going to do.
The state of Texas has just achieved a major victory in the fight against illegal immigration. The bill, known as S.B. 4, will keep cities from calling themselves sanctuary cities and will keep them from considering themselves above the law. No longer will they be able to refuse to cooperate with federal authorities and officials on the enforcement of immigration.
The bill spawned protests from the insolent and the disobedient, but nevertheless, this is a huge win for the state of Texas and for the sovereignty of the United States of America.
