Dead Constitution See other Dead Constitution Articles Title: Disinformation Report Hypes Nonexistent Russian Threat Disinformation Report Hypes Nonexistent Russian Threat by Stephen Lendman Russophobic former US ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer is now a Brookings senior fellow, head of it Arms Control Initiative, and paid propagandist. In Washington testimony before Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) members, he hyped a nonexistent Russian military threat in Europe, Ukraine used as a case study. A litany of disinformation and Big Lies followed, truth turned on its head about Crimea, ignoring its legitimate return to Russia correcting a historic mistake, and blaming Moscow for Kiev’s war on Donbass. Pifer: “There is little evidence to suggest that Russia and the separatist forces under its control want to end the conflict.” “The Kremlin appears to see value in maintaining a simmering conflict as a means to put pressure on and destabilize the government in Kyiv, in order to make it harder for Ukraine to get on with needed domestic reforms and implement its association agreement with the European Union.” Fact: Reality is polar opposite. Russia alone among Normandy Four countries (France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine) forthrightly pursues conflict resolution. Kiev especially undermines it, flagrantly violating Minsk ceasefire terms. Fact: Ukraine is an illegitimate, US-installed, Nazi-infested, putschist regime, a fascist dictatorship in Europe’s heartland, waging war on its own people, committing horrendous human rights abuses, tolerating no opposition. Pifer: Russia seeks “to undermine” peace, stability and mutual cooperation in Europe to establish a dominant “sphere of influence.” Fact: Its agenda and goals are polar opposite what Pifer suggests, willfully lying, supporting adversarial relations with Russia, not responsible outreach to improve things in the interest of world peace. Pifer: Moscow “seeks to weaken the European Union and NATO.” Fact: Russia seeks mutual cooperation with all nations, conflict resolution in Ukraine and other war theaters, exerting an inordinate amount of effort toward achieving these objectives. Fact: US-dominated NATO is the problem, not the solution. European and other nations subservient to America’s imperial interests perpetuate wars, preventing their resolution. Pifer: Russia “assert(s) (a) belligerent stance in Europe…” Fact: Just the opposite is true. America and its rogue allies bear full responsibility for endless wars of aggression. Russia is the leading force for world peace and stability. Fact: America’s empire of bases threaten these objectives, including thousands of its combat troops and heavy weapons near Russia’s borders. Pifer: Moscow might “use nuclear weapons to ‘de-escalate’ a conventional conflict that did not involve an attack on Russian territory, for example, after a Russian conventional attack on another country.” Fact: The claim is utter rubbish. The Russian Federation never attacked another country, threatens none now, intervened in South Ossetia in 2008 to protect its citizens, after hundreds were ruthlessly slaughtered - with full support and encouragement from Washington. Pifer: Russia “fear(s) a stable, modern, democratic (Ukraine) with a robust market economy. (It’s) prepared to go to great lengths to hinder that success, including the use of military force.” Fact: Moscow supports what Pifer claims it fears. Anyone knowledgeable about the region knows he’s a bald-faced liar. Resurrecting the “little green men” canard, he hyped nonexistent “Russian aggression,” blamed Moscow and Donbass freedom fighters for MH17’s false flag downing, killing all passengers and crew on board, followed by cover-up to absolve Ukraine for its high crime. Pifer: “…Ukrainian forces faced a total of 36,000 Russian troops and separatist fighters in the Donbas.” Fact: No Russian forces were involved, only Russian national volunteers, combating fascist viciousness on their own, not sent by Moscow. Pifer turned truth on its head blaming Russia and Donbass freedom fighters for Kiev’s war without mercy, supported by Washington and EU countries, agreeing to resolution, then flagrantly violated its terms. He urged greater political, economic and military support for its putschist regime, instead of responsibly denouncing its illegitimacy. “Over the past three years, Russia has employed military force to seize Crimea, and instigate and sustain a bloody armed conflict in the Donbas in pursuit of the Kremlin’s goal of asserting a sphere of influence in the post-Soviet space and frustrating the ability of Ukrainians to realize their ambition of becoming a normal democratic European state,” he claimed. Cold, hard facts reveal otherwise. Russia is the world’s leading advocate of peace and stability among major powers - America, NATO, Israel and their rogue allies their greatest enemy.
