When I made cosmetics deliveries for this woman in the old neighborhood in Chicago in late 70s, she had this purple fluid that would take the kinks out of the black's hair. I would deliver it by the gallon to beauty shops on South Side.
She told me, "Don't take any checks from those people." So I collected CASH. By the time I was finished, I had $500 to $800 on me. And I ALWAYS CARRIED A PISTOL.
This was in the late 70s and that was a lot of money back then. It was better to be safe than sorry. I also stayed off the side streets.
But, I was making a right turn at 95th and Stony Island and there was a KABOOM off to my left. I floored it and got out of there. I look at door later and there were BB marks on it like they might have shot a .410 at me. Lucky it wasn't a 12 gauge. ;)
