Backs Sen. Ernst's Calls to Escalate Involvement

Jason Ditz Posted on July 19, 2017Categories NewsTags Pentagon, Philippines US special forces have been involved in the Philippines’ military operation against ISIS for awhile now, but it’s limited technical support, for now. President Rodrigo Duterte claimed not to have been consulted about that limited involvement, saying it was a decision made at the military level.

Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Paul Selva, however, suggests the US should get more deeply involved, saying the US ought to consider “formal” military operations to try to slow the rise of ISIS in the country’s south.

The comments were made to the Senate Armed Services Committee at the prompting of Sen. Joni Ernst (R – IA), an advocate of the US intervening militarily in the Philippines, who argued that it threatened a “long-term catastrophe” in the Philippines if the US didn’t get involved.

Gen. Selva was more vague, however, saying he thinks the US ought to consider “named operations” everywhere on the planet where “we see the resurgence of terror networks.” The US military’s last anti-terror operation in the Philippines ended about three years ago, despite the ongoing involvement in the current fighting.

I'm a little confused, here. Did the Philippines order our conventional military to get our asses out of there, but leave our huge naval base and all it's facilities intact when we left?

Let them fight, and win or lose, their own wars. If ISIS were to take over there it would be no skin off OUR noses.

The Chinese may have a different POV on that issue though,as they have a bit of a Muslim problem themselves,as well as a desire to take over all of Asia. They would also love to have control over that nice naval base near the Spratly Islands so they can keep a closer eye on the artifical island they built there to establish land over the underwater oil fields.

I suspect that at roughly the same time the Chinese start to take over the Filipinos will suddenly re-discover their deep love of America, and might even be willing to offer us a new 100 year lease on the naval base at a discount price.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
