The Swiss

We had a Swiss girl visit us out here a couple of years ago.

I mention to her about the "Schutzstaffel" or Shooting Staff.

She said, "Oh, you know about them?"

I said, "Yes. They are the main reason Hitler never tried to invade Switzerland."

She said, "Oh, but we were neutral."

I said, "So was The Netherlands. But the Nazis still invade them." ;)

What the axis powers intended was to carve up Switzerland into three entities to be awarded to Vichy France, Italy and Germany. Hitler hated the Swiss and their political system. It was the antithesis of National Socialism. ;)

While Germany could have taken Switzerland, the Swiss resolve made it not worth the effort.
