Amazing New Features from Russian Search Giant Yandex While Google Censors Dissent

Google just can't compete with Russia's homegrown search engine in Russia.

You may think it obvious that a national search engine would take priority in it's own country, but this is not so in most of the world.

In Germany and the UK, countries the west is always touting as being superior and more advanced to Russia, their internet users are effectively slaves to an American company, Google, with no national search engine.

This excellent segment from Russia's main evening news show describes new Artificial Intelligence features just rolled out by Yandex.

Yandex.Browser is an alternative Web browser with a streamlined interface designed to make your browsing experience as quick and enjoyable as possible. You can import all of your settings from your previous default browser, and you'll be ready to start surfing the Web in no time. Pros

Smartphone sync: If you have this app installed on your smartphone as well as on your Windows computer, you can take advantage of several nice syncing features. Of course, you'll have all of your bookmarks and history saved on both, but you can also make phone calls with just a click of your mouse. When the two devices are connected, clicking a phone number on your computer will initiate a call to that number on your smartphone.

Security: This browser has several nice built-in security features. For instance, it warns you when you visit potentially dangerous sites. It also scans all files you want to download for viruses, so you can avoid creating problems on your computer or other device.

Smartbox: The smartbox is a small, additional search box that you'll find in this browser. It's quite useful for getting answers to questions quickly, as well as bringing up hard facts and figures. Cons

Links from Word: This app did not respond when it was set as the default browser, and we attempted to open a link contained in a Word document. Multiple attempts were unsuccessful, but once we changed the default browser back to Chrome, the link opened properly in that browser. Bottom Line

Yandex.Browser is a smooth and fast alternative to the major browsers available today. It's free, and while we did discover one minor bug, this will probably not inconvenience most users much. If you're interested in improving your Web surfing experience, this is a good option to try.
